Is it possible I have Fibromyalgia?

Hi everyone

Just really confused if I have this or not..

I'm 33 and been suffering with tingling in my legs.. And my feet are always cold.. sometimes I get it all over my body.. arms.. Shoulders and back.. I also get joint pain especially in my wrist.

I get lower back pain when I sit its like a dull ache and pulling sensation.. And also had like a aching on my upper back too.. I get muscle twitches and shooting pains.. Sometimes my vision is blurry..

I've been like this since January.. It first started with the tingling in my legs..

I went to my GP and he told me it was anxiety..

I've Been back and fourth to the docs and A&E numerous of times..and their all saying its health anxiety But I'm not convinced.

My GP put me on antidepressants (citalopram)

Which have helped a lot.

But it's the physical pain that's worrying me.

I know my own body and I know there's something not quite right.. could any of my symptoms be related to fibromyalgia?

Many thanks

Lisa, the symptoms sound like fibro. First steps should be blood tests to eliminate other causes. I would ask to see another GP. See if you can find out if there is one in your practice who understands fibro - not all doctors do.

      Hi bluesman

They did blood test when I went to A&E and they came back clear I've also had rheumatoid and pain bloods done and they was clear too..

My GP mentioned this.. And actually said he doesn't believe in it..

I asked him to refer me to a neurologist.. So I'm just waiting for an MRI scan

Thanks for your comment much appreciated.

      Hi,

Please do not expect a quick diagnois. It took me tree years before they finaly accepted fibro!I under went numerous tests, scans, treatments etc. he first signs areusually isolated to one area then build up from there.

Mine started in my neck,I pulled it in bed and t was neve the samethis lead to allsorts of problems.

I have seen, physios, rheumotoogists, neurologists, bone specialists, pain clinincs and had CT scans,MRI scans, blood tests, trigger point injections, acupuncture and just about every tablet going!

Keep with it and do not allow anyone to tell you fibro is not a medic condition!

I am now manging as best as I can,but recently I am having problms swallowing!Going for an endoscopy!

If you have had the tests and they're negative, then find a GP who 'believes'!

I have a mantra on here about Calcium Magnesium and Vitamin D tablets. I take 2-3 times the RDA of the Boots one. They reduce my pain considerably. Two qualifications though 1) They can take two months to build up properly in your system 2) They can have a negative effect as some have reported here (severe drowsiness). I suspect if they have a negative effect it is due to interaction with other meds

I wouldn't bother with a neurologist at this stage - get a GP first!

Thanks for that advice.. Will look into this more..

I've actually seen another GP in my practice. And he's just saying the same HEALTH ANXIETY...

I'm in disbelief.. And definitely think there's more to it..

      So you suffer with fibromyalgia?

What symptoms do you have if you don't mind me asking?

      Sorry just curious.

      Hi bluesman

could you put down on here axactly how much of each vitamin you use.  I have been taking B12, B6, B complex and magnesium.  I also have calcium with vit D in it off doctor for osteoporosis

I have felt some improvement but feel I may pos be able to do more but not sure about the amounts I should take of the various vitamins. X

Kathleen I take the Boots Calcium Magnesium and vit D capsules (The three things are in the one capsule). I take six a day - the recommended dose is two. I take vitamin B (RDA) and also a multivitamin (RDA). To sleep I take Valerian Root tablets (recommended dose two - I take four) The result is I gat a sleep most nights and pain is reduced by 50-80%. For 'sore' days I take naproxen which helps. I would post a link to the Boots tabs but I know from experience they don't allow that on this board. They come in a grey plastic pill bottle. Apparently if you take too much Magnesium it acts as a laxative. I only get that effect if I take almost five times the RDA.

I can have severe joint pain/stiffness which I consider to be part of my fibro but the latest diagnosis advice to doctors doesn't seem to include it.

      Hi bluesman

i had a serious car accident in 1988 which I was lucky to get out of alive not my fault it ended in 8 operations I think this is one reason I was given for my fibro and also osteo I'm like you I think they are both linked together I have never had pain like this before although at the time of the accident the doctors would not say if the bones that had been shattered would cause me any trouble in years to come:-) every morning I have to take codeine otherwise I couldn't get out of bed I was on morphine patches but stopped those I will not try some of your supplements. Thanks

That's interesting Patricia, I had a serious car crash in 1987, like you not my fault, I got a wedge fracture of my neck I believe that is when my fibro started. It often seems to start with a traumatic event, I also have other painful conditions.
