Is it possible to be pain free?

Hello everyone,

Is it possible to be pain free with Fibro? I wondered if this was the aim with the meds you take, and has anyone achieved this? I am up to 50mg of Amitrypilene, it helps with the sleep - too much really, find it difficult to get up in the mornings! However the pain is still there! What I am hoping to find out is can I achieve pain free, or do I have to accept there will always be some pain.

Cheers, Anne x

Hi... I were diagnosed 3 years ago and the Rheumy put me on Pregabalin they were awfull. The side effects were disgusting. They made me dizzy, slept only 2 hours; pain was awful, felt as if i were drunk and the pain was uncontrolable. Now three years on i have been to so the Rheumy again. He sugested I went on to Dosulepin. He sugested this was to help with sleep, not for depression as I am not depressed.. I now sleep 3/5 hours this is a good result for me, the most i have ever slept. Let me know how you go on please.....Regards Anne...It my birthday today...Hip horay....

Happy birthday, namesake! It was mine on 2nd August.

With amitrypilene, I take it at 6pm and go to bed between 11 and 12, and it usually keeps me asleep till about 10am. I sometimes wake during the night but drop off again quickly. As you can imagine that is ok if I don't have to work!

Hi Anne, I was hoping to be pain free but I'm taking 100mg of tramadol three times a day along with 500mg of gabapentin three times a day and co-dydramol three times a day. I hate having to take all this pain relief just to have the pain at a bearable level. It would be great to be pain free

afraid so iv not heard anyone on hear say they are pain free, i do it all the alternative way and get good sleep and at the moment keeping my pain under control  and the fatigue , so i am quite happy  .

i know lots of people are on a lot of meds but thats there choice as mine is my choice ,but i seem to be doing better than most ,

pain wise and brain fog wise , the stiffness is my biggest problem but thats because iv got lazy and stopped going out .for a walk i couldn t manage it in all that heat now iv got into a habit, which iv got to break.

i think the best advice is do whats right for you and dont belive everything the doctors say they no very little about this condition.i am afraid you got to find your own way . but dont forget drugs do have side effects .which can make the problem worse with alternative treatments and supplements they either work or dont ,

    Hi Anne,

I wonder the same thing sometimes. I have a work colleague who also has fibro, for a long time. I think she is almost pain free, except for pain in her hands. She has weekly acupuncture sessions and finds it really helpful for the pain. She did say she still has the fatigue however. I'm thinking of trying it but the cost is putting me off. So, I think it is possible to get pain free or almost pain free for some people - we can just hope we are lucky enough to be one of those!

Can I ask - how long have you been on amitrypilene and do you find you feel refreshed after sleeping? I am unsure about starting treatment as I am managing without it but the sleeping problems/waking up unrefreshed is awful!

can you get in a bath because if you can buy some magneisum flakes the ones from the sea there best because they get slowly absorbed thru the skin and over time rebuild your magneisum levals which helps with fatigue,

i also buy the liquid and rub it on my limbs befor bed sleep like a log , acupunture is a long term investment i pay £40 a fortnight it keeps certain symptons of the fibro under control but for me i wouldnt say it helped with the pain ,iv been having it for 2yrs now.

supplements walking and magneisum ,you can take it as a mineral in tablet form but use the plant based one its best tolareted

      Hello,

Thanks for your reply. I have been on Amitripylene for 4 months, started on 10mg and gradually increasde to 50mg. Doctor said I could go up to 75mg. I wouldn't say I woke up that refreshed, cos am stiff and achy for a while. But I can then do a few things before I start to feel tired again. It is difficult to know what to do for the best.
