is my back pain related to hip

Hi, I have a back pain, actually a little lower for no reason. Do you think that it is related to my hip since I have a problem with it. ( Close to have a THR )

Maybe, because we walk different because of the hip pain. I had back issues before my hip surgey, and my back issues are still there after surgery of my hip.

loral thanks, where exactly do you have the pain in your back ?

I have it in my butt towards the left, when I was at PT they said it was because I had lifted my hip to walk before my surgery, and that that muscle is tight. So we have to work out our tight hip. She had me use a big ball against the wall to losen that muscle.

I do have 3 herniations and degenerative disc disease L1 L2 L3 L4, all low back issues. If I bend or twist too much, or lift too much it hurts, kinda like a burning feeling a deep pain, not muscular. I take Motrin and Tramadol for pain as needed. The back Dr. didn't see any need for fusion so I probably need to go to the Neurosurgeon, it's probably a nerve being pinched from the herniations.

Don't know if I helped you....

Hi Loral and TLG, I too have lower back issues as well as hip ("quite severe OA of both hips" said the hip consultant, but when he saw the MRI of my lower spine he said that I need to be referred to the spine specialist-degenerative disc disease and multiple bulging discs.  Unfortunately he wants my back sorting out first, not too sure what they can do.

It can be related. My consultant said my hip

was bad and I was 'walking on my back'. it seems

to be that your hip supports your back.

    I am trying

to rest more in the approach to op days.

I definitely think it is related. I went to doctor with bad back and was told after visit to surgeon it was my hip. had one hip replacement already and waiting second one and back pain virtually gone.

It can very definitely be related, the way you walk alters and your stance alters often placing a great amount of strain on your back

I am 7 days post through and my lower back same side of replacement is killing me. I just cannot get comfortable, right now I am sleeping on the sofa, I have taken off my stockings and have no cushion in between my legs because if I don't sleep again tonight I really don't know how I will get through tomorrow.

Lay on your back elevate your feet at least 3 feet up, stack/layer pillows for the height, I bought an angled pillow that is 16" high. It really takes the stress of your low back. Try it, and sweet dreams.
