Is this normal after the outbreak?(HSV1)

So 2 weeks ago, I've been diagnosed with hsv1. And I know the first outbreak you have is severely painful. After my outbreak was gone(finally), is it normal if it's still itchy? I usually get this itch when I wake up too. But what can I do or put on to prevent this itching? I know trying NOT to scratch it won't help because to be honest it's impossible trying to stop yourself from scratching it.

Literally my question a few days ago! The itching definitely does subside, but my vagina still feels sore. I don't think  you'll know it fully heals untill a few weeks after the sores have dissapeared. For me, to reduce the itching, I took Antihistamines (Zrytec-d) which I'm sure you can find over the counter and used a prescription cream I got from my periorial dermatitis diagnosis a few months ago. If you go to your gyno or any doctor, the cream I have is Metronidazole and it definitely helped the itching if you apply it once a day before you go to bedsmile
