Is this normal bloating?

i'm sorry. i feel like i keep asking all of these questions! i am due to have it removed in about 3 weeks. however, i do have the option of getting one of the other surgeons to do it sooner. i just wondered if it was normal to have a bloating feeling under my ribs? now, it is up high under both of my ribs. i sleep on my stomach so i feel like there is a ball or something in my upper stomach. its so scary! sometimes i have a hard time telling if its just gas/bloating or something else. i have been feeling fine the past couple of days as far as the pain and nausea. thanks for your help

Yes it is quite normal for bloating to occur. I was so happy to get my surgery and have it out. Being nauseated and not being able to eat lost 45 pounds very unhappy. for 2 years. I don't miss those days. When I woke up in recovery I couldn't believe how I felt. NO MORE NAUSEA. Get it done so you will feel better. But listen you will have to change your eating habits. If you cheat and eat fats you will pay for it the next day. I'm happy now I don't have this sickness to deal with anymore. Just be brave and do it.Good Luck.

thank you fernando. that makes me feel better. did you ever feel like the bloating was in one particular spot? like right where your liver/ gallbladder is? thanks

Yes especially under right rib area. that is probably your gallbladder going into spasms. it feels weird I know but that comes with a diseased gallbladder. Don't let it worry you ok.

she is fine, thank you. I should have said she had a diseased gb about 30 years ago when she had hers removed. She said the doctor told her it was shriveled up.

I also have bloating right where the gallbladder is. It constantly alternates between bloating and a burning pain. I'm also due to have surgery July 18th. Please let us know how your surgery goes. I'm terrified but can't live like this and feel like my surgery date is so far away .

hi kaitlin.. I am just over 24 hours post surgery. i am trying not to take much pain medicine bc i want to get my bowels moving. Last night I had to though. no pain at the incision sites last night I was having a lot of bloating which was causing pain. i think i need to back up and start with clear fluids. other than that I feel okay

Hi, I was wondering about you! That’s great to hear that everything went well. I also want to try to take as little pain meds as possible. My surgery is next Thursday. Have you been eating anything? I am in the dark as to what I am supposed to be consuming right after surgery.

yes i probably have tried to eat too much. i was to arrive at the hospital at 1:30 tuesday and they didn't get me into surgery until 6:30! so i was starving when i got home. i bought some small red potatoes and baked a few and i seemed okay with that. i ate oatmeal yesterday morning and this morning...and coffee with creamer. i think its the oatmeal that was a little much for my stomach to handle. but, like a dummy last night a ate a couple of bites of rotisserie chicken and roasted veges. thats when my stomach really started bloating and hurting and i had to take something for pain. so maybe start with the clear liquids and gradually add fiber back in and you will probably do better. it is true about the gas pain in your upper back and shoulder. i can tolerate it but the pain medicine does make it better if it is getting too uncomfortable. i can do dishes and laundry okay. I just have to make myself stop and rest. i hate laying down during the day. i am not even 48 hours out yet. i have felt like i was running a low grade temp a couple of times but they say thats normal after surgery.

Yes, I live in California. Thank you for being so informative so soon after surgery. I just found out from my pre op with my dr that my bloodwork showed I’m anemic so they said I might have to postpone my surgery! Hopefully it doesn’t come to that bc I feel like I’ve waited long enough and already scheduled the time off work, and really just want to get this over with. Are you still bloated? Get well soon and even though you don’t like to lay around, please take it easy.
