Hi all, now that I’ve had my second THR 5 weeks ago (left hip) and have been putting more weight on my other leg (right THR a year ago on that one) I sometimes feel my right joint makes an adjustment after I take the weight off.
For example, I’m doing my stretches to my left hip that I just had a THR on and I put total weight on the right leg. When I’m done and take the weight off the right leg I feel as if my right joint goes back into place. It’s an uncomfortable feeling. Maybe it’s weak muscles that I haven’t used in a long time and they are readjusting themselves after the weight I put on them. Maybe I haven’t completely used the muscles on the right after that THR as I was dealing with the pain on my left. And I never completely strengthened those muscles.
I’m afraid there may be a problem with the joint. Anyone felt this?
Sorry if I confused you.

Hi. Good luck with your problem which you have explained clearly. I'm not able to give you an answer on what may be the problem as I'm just 2 weeks on with my new hip. I'm interested because I'm due the other hip being done when I'm ready and it's a problem that myself and others may have later. I suppose at 5 weeks in, the muscles on the latest hip replacement are still weak or spongy as I like to call it and hopefully it's just a matter of time for your body to get used to your unbalance in muscle strength. You can always ask your consultant about your concerns. Good luck. Tony

Are you seeing a physiotherapist? If not then can you ring your GP or surgeon and mention your problem or make an appointment to see someone? I would have it confirmed as either weak muscles or ?

I suspect that is simply that you need to build up your muscle strength to hold everything properly in position.
Good luck, Richard

I would guess Richard is right, just weak muscles, but do ask at your next appointment or before if it's a long way off just to make sure.

Yes I’m hoping it’s weak muscles, thanks guys. 😁
Maree no I am not doing physical therapy. Maybe because last THR it created more pain than help. Just doing stretches and walking but now pain on recent THR so cant walk. Will see doc in 2 weeks.
