Estrogen has a role to play in maintaining collagen, so lack of it can cause skin thinning, joint pains, etc - known menopausal symptoms for many women.  My joints started to ache when I tried to stop my HRT, after being on it for a number of years and have improved since I started again.  As froggy28 said, it may be that you need to increase your dose to replace your own depleting estrogen.
