joy of life regained:)

22 nd April was my 6week check up. 16 th May 9 1/2 weeks post operation, my 16 yr old persuades me to go airsoft (like paintball but betterbiggrin "running " round a woods all day! At this stage people kept asking if I was ok.next game a couple weeks later only one person noticed I had a slight limp, third game a few weeks later still slow but no limp. Went today, with 16 and 14 year old sons... fully mobile wearing camouflage, tactical vest, carrying imitation ak47 running and crawling and scrabbling over rough woodland terrain... New hip is now only part of me not aching..lol. point is no way was I having fun like this with my lads a few months ago or over the last few years of knackered hip time.

Hope everyone else can enjoy renewed joie de vivre like me after a good recovery from thr.

I'm 16 weeks marilyn and am just starting to bend over from the waist but I need to put my leg out behind me if I need to pick up something. I can't imagine trying to kneel and forget about running.

Well done! This is what I am looking forward to with my 10 year old son. You have shown that it is possible to be normal again, it makes it all worthwhile.

Hi all, thanks for responses,I guess I just wanted to say, keep the faith, it takes time and over the last 5 months, there were plenty of times that I asked myself " why did I get this operation?" Especially in the first couples of weeks, but given time and a bit of work on those suddenly pathetic muscles, it was totally worth doing. Whatever technique you get, I think you need to have patience with yourself, tho yes , carol, the nature of my surgery meant I was hip wise better much faster, my knee ligaments (no joint problem) went like jelly probably due to the change in my shape after years of my left foot pointing outwards to ease the pain, then post op pointing forwards. However pre op pain was gone from morning after operation. So although no muscles cut, I still had to get back tone in them, the rules were still given to me tho the physio working with my surgeon said he expected there would be no restrictions on superpath patients next year. Don't tell anyone but I regularly broke the rules smile e.g had a bath at three weeks, cross ed my legs, lay on my side from three weeks also, bending down was difficult with loss of muscle tone, but I could get my socks on after a month. Probably could have done more sooner but better safe ...

All the best, and keep faith with yourselves, Jason.

Thanks for sharing your exspeareance. It have given many people hope and a goal. In 12 weeks in and feeling more movement every day. Had a MRI yesterday on my other hip to see if they can repaire or if that one needs a hole hip op too. Wait and see but I'm focusing on getting the hip Mobile and loosing some weight before my next op so I'm in shape and ready to fight again. So pleased you have made it and you are a influence to others. Well done x

Not that magnificently! Now nearly 6 months out of a total revision and wish I could climb up onto my roof to examine a leak, but do not dare! My girls are happy to have me with them in the kitchen and I have managed to mow my yard a few times.

Very happy for your achievements! And am sure your sons are quite happy!

I know, everyone's experience is different, some people may not be fortunate enough to get back so much as me , and I am not as able as 3 years ago. But my hip was only ever going to get worse and my contact with people who've had the was my nan who had both hips done 3 times ( she lived to 96 and was active and mobile into her 90s) and the builder next door who was mending his roof aged about 70 at about 8months post (I imagine they were traditional techniques). That said my thighs are aching like mad the muscles are still along way from full strength, I think 6 months is still early in recovery form muscles. When I first went to see practice nurse two years ago about my pain(it was pain at front of thigh) he said if it is a damaged muscle, it could rake a couple of years to heal properly... of course I now no it was my hip not the thigh itself.
