Just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

My gp just printed the info off on patient.info and told me to read through and told be to reduce stress levels and listen to my body rest and pace myself. She hasnt given me any medication at all.

Feeling a bit confused and overwelmed at the moment

This sounds like good advice, but relaxing is easier said than done. It could be worth trying to find out something about meditation, it can help me. You will be able to find information online, just type in 'meditation' and see what comes up. Good luck with it, hope it helps.

    Hi there,

I'm sorry that you've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Has this been diagnosed by a rheumatologist or by your gp?

No, there are no drugs that you can take, but if you are getting much pain you

should be offered some sort of pain control.

It takes time to learn to listen to your body. Don't do too much physical work

without taking short breaks to recover.

Is your sleep affected? If so, do all you can to relax before bedtime. Sleep is a

    great healer!

      Thankyou for your advice.

Sleep is ok i sleep about 7-8hours a night but it never seems long enough!

Been looking into supplements and yoga to try and go for a more natural approach before asking for stronger painkillers.

Definitely having a relaxing day off work today

    Dear arual2014

I don't think a lot is known about FM. Your GP is probably hoping that you'll find her suggestions helpful before the need arises to put you on a different range of trial meds. Some people get some relief from anti depressants as they can sometimes  help to block pain . Personally I feel that it's a case of 'suck it and see' because people react differently  to different meds.

Sorry not to be more useful but this is my experience.

    Best wishes

I was referred to a rheumatologist and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  he is trying me on different medication as the pain and aching in my joints is quite severe.

My rheumatologist is well experienced to know what to do and what medication to give and is advising my doctor on what to try to see what works for me.  I don't think GP's know enough about it to give a solution to the problem.

There is no cure for this so we have to learn to live with but with the right advice and medication is is manageable and with help from family you will have a good normal lifestyle.

Less stress is important so your doctor is right about that.

Take care of yourself, that's the most important thing.
