Just diagnosed

Hello, I've just today had a scan and been told I have multiple stones. Up until now I had thought all my pain came from diverticulits which I had diagnosed 5 yrs ago. I have been in lots of pain since just before christmas, had the antibiotics thinking it was diver but pain still there and not been able to eat. Last couple of days have been doubled up every night. Went back to Doctor yesterday who said get gallbladder scanned. So here I am now, my symptoms aren't the usual it seems as most of my pain is on left side and back but when very bad it is all across top of stomach feeling like its been tied in a knot tighter and tighter, I sometimes feel a little sick but not been sick. Just wondering if anyone else had symptoms that weren't the classic right hand side, back, shoulder, being sick type or am I just unusual?? Thanks for reading, have an appointment with Doctor later today to discuss results and see where I go from here.  rolleyes

Hi, I have suffered with costochondritis (inflammation in sternum rib area) for many years because of this many of the symptoms I suffered before gallbladder removed were attributed to this and it was just strong ibuprofen and live with as best you can. However since gb removed a lot of troubles seem to be better touch wood. Hope if you have gb removed its the same for you too.mI'm pretty sure I have read that people with diverticulitis are more likely to have gallbladder trouble and vice versa.

Well just got back from Doctors and he still isn't convinced its gallstones causing it, because scan showed no blockage and no sign of inflammation, still thinks its my stomach so omeprazole and co-codamols for few days, if it doesn't settle will send me to specialist. Not ruling it out but not entirely sure. If its still as painful by Monday I'm off and saying I want to see specialist! Haven't got time to keep feeling so ill sad

Hi, sorry to hear you didn't get any more decisive answers from the doctors. I have heard on here of people having I think its called a hida scan (?) It shows up if your gallbladder is functioning properly and releasing bile correctly. Some people who didn't have stones etc had a very low percentage function and this was their problem. Hope you get some better answers soon I know gps don't have all the answers but its terrible to be left in pain with no idea what to do next.

Just to add if your scan showed lots of stones I would ask to be referred to a surgeon he will obviously know more than a gp and at least you will have started the process rather than just waiting and suffering.

Doctor said he wouldn't leave me long before sending me to specialist, so if no improvement after weekend I will go back and say I want to go and see him, will mention what you have said about that other scan too, thanks

Yes. I have the strangest symptoms as well. Headaches are especially bad. Will be seeing a doctor in March and hopefully get ultrasound. Just recently I have been getting an aching pain under my left rib but my right pains as well and my brain and face constantly feel achy as does my stomach (very much like yours actually). I'm praying that everything goes well for you. It will give me some hope about my own condition.
