Just found out I have Gallstones!

Hey,

So for the last 6/12 months i've been experiencing pain/discomfort most days, especially after eating. Doctors kept putting it down to indigestion and gave me Omeprozole which has helped however, they sent me for an Ultrasound and I have been told I have some Gallstones and i've to make an appointment with my doctor to discuss treatments etc.

I'm 22 and i've never had any health problems so being told this has really upset and worried me. I really need someone to put my mind to rest because my anxiety is through the roof. To be this is such a big deal and i'm so worried something serious is going to happen!

I'm also hearing the only treatment is surgery which doesn't help

I’m sure your physician will have much more to say, but if it came down to it, having your gallbladder removed is quick and essentially an easy procedure. You do have to be careful for a time afterwards on what you eat, but everyone is different. You'll be fine! God Bless

Sorry, but there are no treatments for stones. You can help yourself by eating healthy. If you have little sickness you will be told to wait until you are ready. That is the way it goes. You need to be deathly sick for surgery. Good Luck .

HI, i had my gallbladder out two years ago and a bit like yourself i used to think i suffered from indigestion for more years than i can remember. my stones were randomly discovered whilst having a scan for another complaint.after they discovered the stones i had them removed very shortly after and im happy to say its the best thing that has happened. no more long nights in pain! the removal hasnt affected my diet and i still eat the same as i did before. Dont be frightened , my fear was i wouldnt be able to eat certain foods and in my case that isnt the case.

Hey, thanks for your response! Did you just have the stones removed on your whole Gallbladder? I was really shocked because I only eat junk food on Saturdays and i eat quiet healthy during the week. I am a bit overweight but not badly. I do get pain almost every day, Omeprozole helps but not completely. The pain is usually between my ribs and back

Because it is two months ago since your post and no post since please can you update your situation. Gall bladders can have stones in them for years without symptoms but some have symptoms when there are a minimal amount of stones in their gall bladder.

It is not true that the only way to rid a person of gallstones is gall bladder removal

There is an alternative to surgery in some instances under medical supervision. There are some who disregard the dissolution of gall stones out of hand without thoroughly researching that option. Many doctors who are gastric surgeons do not promote the dissolution technique but there are some gastric surgeons who do promote the dissolution treatment.

In your case your doctor should tell you of all the facts before removal so that an informed decision can be chosen by you.

There should be a separate post headed - is the removal of gall bladder the only way to eradicate stones =NO.

Please research Ursodeoxycholic acid treatment to dissolve gall stones of cholesterol type.
