Hi everyone it's the 1st time ive joined something like this. I had a viganal repair on Wednesday 28th September. I had grade 2-3 cystocele, grade 1 rectocele and 1st to 2nd degree cervical decent. Not 100%sure what all this means. But I had a bulge there and that's the main reason I went in. I am obviously taking it easy however today when I went to pass poo I noticed when I was straining that I still had a bulge present, not as bad as it was but it was still there. Does that mean the operation hasn't been successful or is this normal and things will continue to tighten up? I'm not due to have any follow ups but I'm worried incase it's all been a waste of time. Any one experienced anything similar? Please help!! Thanks I'm advance xx

Hi Victoria, you are very early on in your recovery and should be able to contact the ward where you had it done with any queries as its less than 7 days from your op. The main thing I would say is that under no circumstances should you be straining to open your bowels. Did they give you stool softeners/laxatives to help avoid that? Things will be pretty swollen in that area so it would be hard to say what's really going on down there. A quick call might help reassure you?

Hi, it is very early days. Don't strain whatever u do. Have u got a stool to raise your legs up when you go to the loo. It really does help. I am at week 6 tomorrow and still taking Senna and lactulose. I would get in touch with the ward and get some advice. Good luck. Keep us posted x

Hi Victoria, I'm 7 weeks after having rectocele and cystocele stage 4. I too had noticed a bulge still there. My doctor said a lot people will thank that. That its swelling, and she said when you bend to look it pushes things down and will look like a bulge..... I feel pretty normal, now at 7 weeks. Had 6 weeks check up and was cleared to start back slowly doing normal activities. You do have to be careful going. I took Linzess preceiption, I was afraid I would have trouble. And was very careful not pick up anything over 3 lbs and tried not bend to much. Kept my feet up a lot. Wanted to make sure it all worked, don't want it to happen again.

Straining to go is not good at all. You are supposed to just "open your bowels" as in relax anal sphincter and it should just come out. But I'm wondering like the other girls, if you're not on stool softeners? Surely you are?
