I've had IBS for yrs n yrs ..I am 59 now an it started in my early 20s. My pain is totally on the left side an I have learned how to manage it by laying on my left side to move the trapped gas however I can't always do this. I take a probiotic, fiber, everyday ( bentyl, gas x, charcoal tabs) as needed. My bowels, during a flair I'm constipated. I have tons of gas that I expel all the time an it is NASTY.
Has anyone tried kefr milk? An what does it taste like???

I have had something very like IBS for 10 years and the symptoms included very variable stools but since using homemade milk Kefir my gut flora have become much happier (can’t really ask them) and my stools have a much better consistency. The amount of wind has reduced but I believe I swallow quite a lot of air due to fairly constant catarrh.
I bought a starter kit for milk Kefir and have been making it on a daily basis since about April this year. There are many sites that tell you a lot about it but it taste like slightly acidic yoghurt and it is slightly fizzy due to the fermentation. I sweeten mine with Stevia but recently I changed from supermarket versions to SweetLeaf Stevia as it does not use a lot of bulking agent such as Maltodextrin which may not be helpful to the organisms in the Kefir. In addition I sometime add Freeze dried Strawberry powder just before I drink it. Various comment I have seen suggest that leaving Kefir with the Strawberry powder in the drink overnight again interferes with the effect of the Kefir due to the Fructose.
I have a glass (120ml approx) 3 times a day 10 minutes before eating.
As with many health issues there will be many different opinions but Kefir has been in use for a long time.
Here is one extract form one online page:
“Kefir grains occur in nature. They are living organisms (not man-made). No one knows exactly where or when the kefir grain first appeared. What has been established however, is that kefir grains originated from the Northern Caucasus Mountain region of the former USSR.“
