Hi deb,I went private too through AXA (through my works medical care scheme) and I was allowed £1000 out patient money but I had to find the physio I wanted and it had to be on AXA’s list of physio’s.(most are)once I had done that andAXA ok’d it the physio just billed AXA for my sessions.the out patient money also covered the 8week surgeon check up.

I'm with AXA they picked the nearest physio to me and they pay the physio directly. All I had to do was ring up for an appointment

In my case I knew the physio from previous ops that’s why I picked him and I knew he was on AXA’s list and yes once I phoned AXA and they ok’d it there and then I booked a block of ten sessions with the physio who in turn billed AXA.

Brent did you have the op done privately or under NHS? Because I had it under NHS AXA paid me £50 for every night I was in hospital. My fella says if he had known that he would have made sure I stayed there for a week 😂😂

To be honest my insurance company have been good, I have no excess and if I am in an nhs hospital they pay £150 a night.

I only got 2 physiotherapy appointments, when I had my TKR from the hospital, but my insurance company have given me more sessions with a physio I have used before

I had my total knee replacement on 17th July this year. I had a spinal anaesthetic and sedation at 08.30 and was back on the ward at 10. 30 feeling fine. After lunch I saw the physio who got me out of bed to sit in the chair, and the following day when the full length bandage was removed I was encouraged to bend my knee to 90 degrees which I almost managed, and also walked down the ward with crutches. I saw the consultant when he did his round and he was happy for me to go home the next day.

Armed with my physio exercise list and my out patients appointments I went home the following day. I rested elevated and iced when I needed to, I did my excercises as requested and for the first 2 weeks I walked with a wheeled walker which I found made me feel much safer than arm crutches.

I went to my physio appointment at 2 weeks post op,she was very pleased with my ROM and my walking and said if I wanted to return I could phone any time and be seen again up to 2 months.

At 6 weeks I went to see my consultant and was seen by his orthopaedic nurse specialist who was thrilled to see me now walking confidently with one stick. She gave me her number and told me to call if I had any concerns or queries.

Since then life has slowly been returning to normal.I live alone and have been using the local buses to do my shopping ,(I don’t drive) if I do too much one day my body tells me off, with pain and swelling,so I do what it tells me,I medicate, rest ice and elevate.

I am lucky to live on the Isle of Wight and throughout these past few months it’s my pleasure and privilege to say to my local NHS hospital, thank you for giving me your expertise and kindness.

Thank you also for getting rid of the terrible arthritis pain I suffered for several years. But more importantly Thankyou for the best treatment in the world today, our National Health Service.

You've done so well sounds like the perfect recovery. I don't think I reached a bend of 90 degrees before leaving hospital. I was struggling to support the weight of my own foot because the pain in my quad was horrendous. When I was being discharged the wheelchair they bought me didn't have a leg support and I couldn't bend my knee enough to put my foot on the foot plate. If it could bend 90 degrees it would have been supported. I was determined to go home though so  just worked through the pain of having my leg just dangling it was awful 😢
