Knee pain

Good evening! I’m writing about my right knee pain I’ve had theee arthroscopic ops on both knees the last being a double one 3 years ago I’m very flat footed and have had problems forever. My right knee gives me terrible pain on and off more recently on it’s just under the knee cap to the left If I bend my knee and press that area it’s very very painful. I don’t know what to do as I feel another arthoroscopy won’t fix the problem they just clean them out and that’s it. Any ideas on what it is? What I can do

I had four scopes (two each knee) in my 50's.  Arthritis plus damage to menisci and femoral condyles.  Not much left to repair after those four.  Went on Synvisc for about 5 years (3 shots...days 1, 8 and 18 lasted me close to a year per cycle).  Then I moved from the cold of New Jersey to the warmth of Texas.  I needed NOTHING for six more years.  When the pain ultimately returned at 68. doc said that another scope wouldn't do me any good and more Synvisc would only work for a very short time.  Brick wall, end of the line, last stop on the knee-train...TKR time.

You can try the Synvisc to see if it helps (cortisone is very temporary and limited to the # of shots you can have).  Otherwise, if the doc says that another scope would be useless, there are really no other options.  That's what I ran into.  Left knee done March of '16...takes a year for a full recovery for the vast majority of us.

My surgeon said he doesn't do arthroscopic surgery anymore because it doesn't work, obviously depending how bad the knee is. He took one look at my x-rays and I was booked in for a rtkr. When did you last have an x-ray? Maybe that's your next step.

Know what? I was the same. 4 years before I got a second x-ray thanks to a new doctor at my practice. She looked at my hobbling into her room, asked when I last had an x-ray and sent me for one. Got the results, she said my knees were "horrible" and referred me for a tkr. After that it was done within 3 months. Thank God for that doctor 😁

I was just so relieved to be getting something done at last that i broke down in her room lol. I was in hospital for 2 days, I'm now 8 weeks today and getting on great. Still a long way to go through but the arthritic pain is completely gone! 😁😁

I’m at the same point you are. I had a bilateral 2 years and the right knee has always been painful if I walk any distance or try to bicycle or other exercise. Similar pain in the left knee stopped after a hip replacement but there’s nothing wrong with the right hip. A second opinion surgeon has scheduled me for a bone scan to determine if there is loosening or instability in the TKR appliance. If there is, it would mean a revision.  Those might be 2 things to discuss with your surgeon. Sometimes an arthritic hip will cause knee pain after a TKR and an X-ray could rule this in or out. A more expensive and invasive test is a bone scan to test the appliance to see if it has loosened or shifted. I can’t handle this pain — and inability to get back into life — after the TKR so I’m pressing ahead.

Oops. This is what happens when you only get 4 hours of sleep a night due to knee pain. Sorry but I misread your post and thought you had had a TKR. You might want to review some of the research on effectiveness of arthroscopic knee surgery.
