Hi all,

I am a 48 male that had a total knee replacement on right knee 8 days ago. I can not lift my right leg, very limited rom, very painful at night, always very stiff. I went to see doctor he said there is a lot of fluid in knee but looks good. Told me to rest and elevate knee. I have a lot of old scar tissue in this knee as well. Everyone says it will get better. Can't sleep can't walk can't do anything without pain. Anyone else with same problems

I was in hospital for less the 24 hours. Surgery started at 2pm was in room by 630pm was up by 11pm next morning did on session of pt at 1045am was on way home by 1230pm. I live alone kids are grown they call every day or so ask if I need anything other then my support system is me myself and I. Insurance would not pay for a rehab facility nor home care. Not that I am complaining you play the cards you are dealt. It was a blessing finding this site.

Tom, one of the best investments I made was a large size blue col pack, available through Amazon if to can't get out to a pharmacy. They freeze rapidly, are quite pliable so you can wrap the entire knee or move to hip and lower back. The come in a 1/2 dz sizes. I made a mistake in undersizing the 1st time I purchase one and popped the seems cause I tried to make it cover more than capable. Again you don't want the bare Pac touching your bare skin. Also, you might try adding 2 Aleve every 12 hours. Makes a good anti inflammatory.

I have a freezer full of gel ice packs that I wrap in a nice towel then it wraps around my knee I can slide it up or down depending on where pain is at. I left a message with doc to see if there is anything else I could take for the swelling. I think once that goes down then I should get rid of the stiffness.

Going to try to close my eyes let's see what happens keep you posted

Try to stay hydrated. 50 years ago a pro golfer was having trouble with his fingers swelling making it difficult getting a proper gift. He started increasing is water intake and found it to be a big help. Eventually he moved to 7 up which in his mind really was better. He credited the citrus. I guess we all try anything and everything to get some relief. When I was young I always dreamed of having a joint that would stay swollen and stiff for a long time......never thought to be more specific and request it NOT be a knee.

By the way, try maintaining a good sense of humor. A good laugh now and then sure helps. My wife has often said if I didn't have a sense of humor i wouldnt have any sense at all.

    Hi Tom,

    It's 5.00 am here, awake at 1, 2.30 and 4.00 till now.

Ice definitely makes w difference. The days I ice a lot I definitely get more comfort during night.

Taking an ant-inflammatory before bed also helps. I take Keal x 1.

    My pain killers are Tyler.

    Getting up soon.
