Knee swelling

This is the one thing that worries me. First thing in the morning my knee looks fine but now that I'm 10 weeks post op I've been going out with friends say for a meal, today we walked to the pub for lunch which is roughly about half a mile. I took my stick but to be honest I could probably have managed without it. We must have been sat for a couple of hours but when I got to stand up there was considerable swelling in my knee and thank god I did take my stick. I managed to walk home and then ice and elevated. The swelling does cause considerable pain and obviously prevents ROM. So has anybody got any ideas of what I can do to help prevent swelling when doing activities, this is going to be the one thing that stops me going back to work I can't really sit there with my leg elevated and ice pack on while I'm at work. If I strengthen the knee does this really help. HELP! I really need to get back to work  cheers sue x

You need to keep it up on a chair when sitting...

Your knee is the boss! It is letting you know!

It will get better but you cannot make it heal any faster,

I can't really elevate my leg at work 😢

I just just wondered if your muscles are stronger around the knee does this prevent swelling? My physio says my leg strength is near enough the same as the good leg except there is a deficit in my hamstring. I'm concentrating more on this muscle group just wondered if any one else has had the same issue and got better from it.

thanks for your reply Jenny x

Dont know about the muscles, but for me swelling took a good 5 months to abate. It was not much pain or swelling, but enough to make me wonder at times if it woukd ever getbetter even though in my head i knew it would!

Now at 9 months it's bionic! Feels like my own...occasional nerve zing, occasional clickedy clicks ....

      Just a matter of time...

Can you still use a stick a bit at work?

Unfortunately not. I'm a nurse on an intensive care unit on my feet all day moving and handling patients so I need to be at least 90% fit before returning. I get 6 months full pay so there is no financial reason to return to work too soon I'm just finding it a bit frustrating. I see my physio again on Thursday so I'll ask about this swelling x
