Ladies who Lunch

This is for Mrs G and all you other 'ladies who lunch'!

A group of girlfriends, all age 40, discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the waiters there were handsome, with tight pants and nice bums.

Ten years later, at age 50, the friends once again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the food was good and the wine selection was excellent.

Ten years later, at age 60, the friends again discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they could dine in peace and quiet and the restaurant had a beautiful view of the ocean.

Ten years later, at age 70, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because the restaurant was wheelchair accessible and had an elevator.

Ten years later, at age 80, the friends discussed where they should meet for lunch. Finally it was agreed that they would meet at the Ocean View restaurant because they had never been there before.

    Oh lovely, Mrs O :D

I could relate to it because I went to Winchester with a friend yesterday (sorry, didn't go near Basingstoke), and realised when we were wondering where to eat how our priorities had changed!

Used to be somewhere lively, now it's somewhere not too noisy so we can hear each other AND with nice loos

Not quite got to the point of forgetting where we've been though!

Saw primroses, daffs and lambs but, boy, was it a cold wind :!:

Love to all, keep warm and cosy, unless you live in a warmer part of the country, Green Granny[/color:4172e3d125]

Well I have only been out to lunch 4 times this week !!!!

Yesterday we had a waiter who was soooooooooooooo attentive and charming one of my friends asked him if he was Italian but he came from Prague ( which surprised me as I have found the people there very reserved !!) he was obviously after a big tip !!

One place we go a friend wishes she was 21 again as the waiter is so good looking so I think we must all still be 40 ( well at least at heart )!!

Sun shining off to Folkestone tonight and France tomorrow !!

    Best wishes

On our first ever visit to Winchester last week we arrived late and hadn't got a clue where to eat and ended up in the Wessex Hotel (next to the Cathedral). The food (and the loos! ) were very good. Rather than search around for a car park, we noticed a Park-n-Ride area and were most impressed with our first ever experience of that. Would be interested to hear where you parked and ate in case we go again.

Hopefully, not being far away you've got that big shiny yellow stranger beaming down on you today as well - still very cold but lovely and bright. Do hope everyone else is enjoying a brighter day too. :D

Wow :wow: lunch out 4 times this week - are you fasting today in preparation for French cuisine tomorrow?!!! Amusez-vous en France! :redwine:

Noticed you're now seeing great results from the Rosie diet - well done you! :ok: I might still catch up with you on my weekender one - 4lbs off now! :D

Hello to everyone 'looking in' and do hope you're all having a comfortable (and sunny) day. :star:

Sun beaming down here ( Norfolk ), too, and about time. Just pruned a huge buddleia so am hot.

Don't lunch much but still laughing at the joke. Trying to decide to whom I can send it without offence. Some folk are a bit touchy about their memories. Actually I've known some forgetful five year olds in my time and they were rather charming.

    Hello Mrs O,

I love Winchester and go there several times a year :D :D

Have doen the Park and Ride (is it up St Giles Hill?) but these days use the bus from Guildford. It takes an hour and a half but the friend and I catch up and talk all the time and don't notice it. I think parking in the centre of Winchester is quite tricky.

Food, we often go to the Cathedral refectory, or there's a nice pub in the Close up towards the High St. but sorry I don't know the name.

A lovely place to go to there is the walk along the river to St Cross - apparently they are the oldest almshouses in the country, still used, and you can get the Wayfarer's Dole, a tiny bit of bread and a little beaker of Ale! I'm not sure that would quite be[u:db6bd69984] lunch[/u:db6bd69984] though!

I've just tried sending you a personal e-mail about your weekend diet - I've either sent it about 3 times or not at all :?

    Sun still shining :D :D Green granny[/color:db6bd69984]

That was a coincidence both going to Winchester fort a day out

It is a lovely place The most noted pub for lunch is the Wykeham Arms not far from the Cathedral

I think there might be 3 park and rides now as that was always one of its drawbacks you got in the middle and couldnt park !!

Yes i have had an indulgent week but i always go out for 2 a week but the others were fit in when you can ones so all came together and France !!!!!

Next week will be a lettuce leaf and grated carrot and a glass of water !!

    Lovely here to

Joke made me laugh!!!! Many thanks smile

My sister lives in Bournemouth and we have often spoken of me stopping in Winchester when I 'used' to drive down to stay so I could enjoy it...... will have to wait a year or so now.

My Wi-fi connection has not been up and running for a day or two now for some odd reason but suddenly, when I had complained to hubby I was having problems, it kicked in and made a liar out of me sad

Beautiful sunny day here although cold and have been over with my daughter and grandaughter wink

Hubby now off work for two weeks so will be pottering about and hoping to be taken out for lunch or afternoon tea several times smile

Dear Green Granny and Mrs G

That's all very interesting information you've both given me about Winchester and it makes me wish I'd mentioned it before we went but hubby rather sprung it on me (as usual! ).

The Park and Ride we used was the Barfield Car Park covering the East Car Parks, and I believe there was another covering the South Car Parks.

Will remember to look for the Wykeham Arms if we go again and am fascinated by the sound of the ancient almshouses and the Wayfarers Dole - that would perhaps do as a starter en route to the Wykeham Arms!!!

GG, I wonder what happened to the personal e-mail. Never mind, I'll e-mail the diet to you and hope I have better luck. :ok:

fiftiesgirl - oh don't you just hate it when something that refuses to work for you suddenly recovers when hubby has a go! :grrr: Hope the sun shines for hubby's holiday and your PMR behaves so that you can both enjoy yourselves! :P

Lucky you - off to France - for the weekend??

    Mrs O

I put on a lb over the half term hol - then back on track. But have just drunk too much wine (2 glasses - light weight!) and then binged on after 8s! just cos they were there and cos its a Friday evening. How pathetic is that?! Lunch in little French Bistro in Bath tomorrow before seeing \"Yes Prime Minister\" at the theatre. Ah well....

Hope you are all well and comfortable

You've done so well that you deserve a treat (or two  ) especially on a Friday after working all week. Your coming weekend sounds wonderful - enjoy! :P

    Hi to all of you,

Anyone new to this site might just think what a light hearted bunch we all are, all this stuff about lunches, wine, choccies, and lucky ones popping off abroad etc :D :D :!:

BUT it's the way I keep going - I try and have something good to look forward to every week, cinema, trip out etc. I sometimes pay for it physically next day ( I really lacked energy yesterday after my trip to Winchester despite the lovely sun). Husband tends to be too energetic for me - he's always the one who's striding on ahead, even before horrid PMR struck, he[u:b01c4abe60] rushes[/u:b01c4abe60] everywhere, trying to prove he's 20 years younger I think! I say, my approach is calmer, more [u:b01c4abe60]philosophical[/u:b01c4abe60]. Well, that's my excuse!

So enjoy your treats everyone, it's the \"glass half full\" approach rather than the \"glass half empty\" one, but I do have so much sympathy for those who still have a paid job, and are trying to cope with that and the pain and lack of energy of PMR and possibly GCA. sad

Enjoy your weekend everybody, Green Granny[/color:b01c4abe60]

    Hello Beev and co

No I am back from France We stayed in Folkestone last night didnt fancy getting up too early today and we went back and forth on the Tunnel There was a delay but we still had an excellent day and fantastic lunch

I feel at the moment I have put on a stone not a pound !!

And now my husband has just started talking about Pancake day !!

Feel fine after all the travelling but will take it easy tomorrow I agree Green Granny its trying to make the most of what we can do so we dont think too much about the things we cant Last year when I felt so poorly I couldnt wait for the weekends so my husband would be home ( he is always a glass half full person) or the days in the week when I would be seeing friends because i was sitting around the rest of the time reading or wartching daytime TV and I thought I would never be active again !!

I also do sympathise with all the people still working as I know that normally as soon as anh employer sees you back at work they very soon forget you are part time because you are still not fully fit I have seen people who have had cancer and are back at work get tons of sympathy at first but then treated as if they are going off to enjoy themselves when they have to have time off for chemotherapy !! So my advice to those with PMR is dont struggle back before you are ready and if you have a flare up get signed off again

Someone once said to me who have you heard saying later in life I wish Id spent more time at work !!

    Best wishes to all

Beev....hope you had a great time at \"Yes Prime Minister\". I saw it in London just after Christmas & thoroughly enjoyed it- the script was so tight and the delivery of \" Sir Humhreys\" character excellent smile

Mrs G...how I would love to live somewhere that day trips to France were feasible as I LOVE the food in the north of france  8) and as for pancakes....yum yum

I am not really supposed to eat either eggs or normal flour....but I take the risk with a couple of small panckes with lemon and sugar every Shrove tuesday as i just can't resist them!!!

I played golf today for the first time since last September and had a lovely time, even if I went around in a buggy. It was sooo lovely to get out and play a game I love, and hopefully I won't be too sore tomorrow after it.

My eyes seem to be back to normal short-sightedness (though slightly less than before) and the opthalmologist feels that it may have been a case of a contact lens adhering too tightly to the eye and temporarily changing the contour of the right eye....at least all other tests have proved normal and her other possible cause was a steroid induced diabetes, but my blood sugar test was OK.

Hope everyone is enjoying a restful week-end.

    Love, Pauline.
