Lap TH and ovaries removed . 5 weeks post op . Advice on return to work

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi ya . Am now 5 weeks post op looking to have phased return to work next week . Would this be too soon ? I tried to drive but found I have a heavy , tight feeling in my groin area after I drove the car. And I find if I do too much I have a tight stretched feeling lower abdominal . I have read lots on TAH but I had a laparoscopy (lap ) surgery , hysto, cervix , ovaries and tubes as well as bowel endo removed . Seems your told that you should recover quicker with lap so I feel pressure is on to be fine for work ?

Well I would still say 10 to 12 weeks if you had key hole. Iam just going to work next week after 16 weeks and still not ready. I had a full one with everything taken away. I had cut on my bikini line.

I do think it's far too soon. But your body will tell you when you are ready. I no people that go back early then end up having more weeks off and it put them back. I wish you good luck. Ans I wish I felt like that at 5 weeks. Xx

Hi there. I had a TAH and I know that recovery time is meant to be longer but by any standards I think 5 weeks sounds a bit too soon. Think it would be wise to give it loner but it depends on what you do for a job. Are you on your feet all day?

Hi. I'm waiting for lap just inc ovaries and been told 4 week's off work but I know I was off 4 weeks with lap for removing some of endo before this op where no organs removed. If you are not ready go back to your gp and tell them. You've also had ovaries removed so unless you've already gone thru menopause you'll be affected by sudden hormone change too. If you are tired and sore your body is saying you are not ready so don't overdo it. I wish you well xxxx

Thanks ladies , it does seem to be like this though . People say was it a lap or abdominal when u say lap " oh that's ok then you will be fine " so it's like its dismissed that you have had major surgery . My work is in an office so sitting all days. I'd get up and more every hour though . Think I will try working from home first and see how it goes . Would be good to stay off linger but financially I need to start work again . Hope your all well too xxxxx

I think it's a bit too soon too, but only you can make the decision. If there are financial pressures as well as peer pressure you may well feel you have no choice, but you only have one chance to recover from this op, it is major surgery whichever way it was done. Good luck with whatever you choose to do xx

When you plan the phased return make sure you stick to it.i had laparatomy ovary removal in November, had 8 weeks off then went back phased but tried staying for an extra hour or so. Sitting at a desk is a very different position to sitting at home and i felt 'squashed' after sitting for more than an hour at a time.

      Wishing you well, x

listen to your body lovely. Everyone is different and your body will not thankyou for returning too soon. I remember speaking to a lady in clinic who had a total hysterectomy and she went back to work too soon and is now back waiting for further surgery to repair her bladder ! Listen to you hun xx
