I haven't seen it mentioned, but I'm curious. I would think so in most cases. If so, does that cause walking problems, back pain, etc.?
My first TKR is scheduled Oct. 16 here in the States. Nervous Nellie, I am...

Recently I've had a lot more problems walking and especially getting up from a chair, couch, toilet. Not sure what's going on, even wondering if I have RA. Experiencing extreme weakness in both legs, on top of my crunchy knees. ARGHHHH..!!!

Four weeks until "Knee Day" and honestly I'm really nervous... Any and all "last minute" words of wisdom would be MUCH appreciated...
Pre TKR #1 and thinking about chickening out... (not really, but close)

The only difference is that now my left knee doesn't hurt any more, like it did before I had it replaced. If the surgeon is worth his/her salt, there shouldn't be any difference.
Good Luck in Oct.!! Remember to take things one day at a time!!! This is a very LONG recuperation!!!!!! Pain meds, ice, and physical therapy!!! Hang in there, every day is one day better than before.

I had surgery in 2001 and used frozen peas for ice packs - worked great..!! I need my right knee done, too, so am hoping and praying for a swift recovery so that can happen sooner rather than later. My son and his wife live outside Barcelona and I'm WAY overdue for an extended visit..
Thanks again for the great pep talk...I'm so very thankful for you all..!! Gotta start making my checklists to get everything set up at home for my post op ADVENTURE.... I think what I'll do on Halloween is turn all my lights out and go hide in the back with my laptop...

I do have an elevated toilet seat and a shower I can easily get into. I have a La-z-boy sofa, and have added cushions to the seat to make it easier to get in and out of. Do you think that will work? I was thinking of getting a recliner instead so I would have arms on both sides to help when getting up. You're supposed to keep the knee elevated and iced postop, right?
My surgery is a little over four weeks away and I am definitely in panic mode...!!!!!

For me, ROM is important but only to be able to live (no mountain climbing or bungee jumping in my future, for sure).

My surgery will be at Virginia Mason. The last time I had to use cold packs I bought two or three large bags of frozen peas. They are very pliable but do defrost fairly quickly, so maybe I'll look into those cold Pacs that refreeze quickly.
