Light period or spotting?

Posted , 3 users are following.

Have always had heavy periods, and on at least 3 different occasions I've seen a dr about spotting between periods which has always turned out to be linked to my cycle and nothing more sinister.

My periods are really irregular at the moment - anything from 18 days to 42.

In July I had a really long period of 10 days plus 2 days of very light/spotting both before and after. Then I had 31 days before a 3 day period, then 18 days before a 5 day period and then 30 days to 10 days of spotting/streaks with 2 days of what seemed like a light period in the middle. Now I'm spotting again, after 13 days from when I'd say the "period" part of all that spotting started. But perhaps it was all a period and this is spotting before another one starts, 16 days after the spotting last time.

How am I meant to know, and how am I meant to cope with such irregularity? sad

Hi anon, I'm 44 in November and my spotting started just under 2 years. My GP has said it's ovulation!  I'm changing my stupid GP! Every time when I go there he makes me feel like a crazy person! 😠 he thinks I'm too young to be in perimenopause. Recently I went through horrible experience : after sex with my dear husband I started feeling a bit eachy and running to the loo too often. We have been devastated because we don't sleep around and I have got redness and discomfort and my hubby is fine so, I went to GP and young Doctor said she doesn't know what it is. Gave me antibiotics and sent a sample of urine for check up! I have gone through the antibiotics and no changes! I was having baths, drinking water and used sudocrem  ( thanks to our Lady from the forum she mentioned dryness )! When I went to see GP it was him that time. He didn't look!  Said my urine test was negative 😠!  I'm happy but 3 days of horrible antibiotics! He has said I need to book him with a nurse!  It was possible in 2 weeks time! I have to wait for 2 weeks! Anyway, we are without sex and I feel fine no eachy and discomfort and I have read about dryness and that's what exactly how I feel. Sorry I was too long. Going to change GP and try to sort myself out. I went through scans, all test, ultrasound and in August smear test was done -all clear.  GPS just not interested unless you are not dieing.

    My best wishes to you!

How did they decide that it was linked to your cycle in the past? Asking as I started spotting between periods 5 months ago. Gp said peri straight away (I just turned 45) but still sent me for an ultrasound which found a polyp and a fibroid. I then had to see a gynaecologist which was meant to have a look, possibly take the polyp out and take a biopsy. She managed to take a sample but didn't get to the polyp so I need to go back again.

My periods are still regular and heavy but I would spot at ovulation (prob a bit more than spotting) and also sometimes before or after my period. I have a feeling mine gets worse after running so I've stopped exercising which is really depressing .

I hope you get it sorted and keep us posted xx

Hi there! I'have been here with the ladies and bit. My GP  doesn't say anything!  Even  last year was diagnosed with Burning Mouthe Syndrome and that's definitely links to perimenopause my GP still will not coferm!  I've done all checks,  all clear. Mind you didn't get done MRI ? . This month,  yesterday it was more than spotting, I thought it was my period but today is fine. It fricks me out.

Trying not to think about it a lot.

Hope your polyp will be sorted out.

      God bless you!

The first time, a smear test came back clear and then being put on the pill sorted it. The next time, I'd got all the dates marked on a calendar and it was really obvious to the gynae what was going on so had some hormone prescribed for something like 10 days of my cycle and that sorted it for a while. I've had fibroids removed but never associated them with spotting, just huge blood clots and a high risk of flooding during my period.
