LS steroid treatment - please help!

Hi,

I've had LS for 2.5 years now (29 year old female) and really want to know a bit more about treatment and what all of you do.

For context my symptoms are mainly small tears after something like sex, red vulva (all the time even if not sore) and sore/tender vulva for 3 days during my period.

At the moment i only use steroid cream for the 3 days around my period and if i have a tear after sex (doesn't always happen so i estimate maybe 1-2 times a week). I met with my UK GP today and she was concerned about the amount of days i was using the steroid cream.. i thought i was doing well, its honestly probably the best my symptoms have been in ages!

My concern is having read through this forum there is a lot of discussion about regularily using steroid cream to prevent fusing.. I also see depending on what country you are from some people are told to use the cream daily with or without symptoms (am i right in thinking this is to prevent fusing?!). I know in the UK their concern is steroid dependency hence why they try and wean you off it however i would rather not loose my vulva anatomy...

**Can i ask what you all do in terms of steroid treatment even when your symptoms are ok?? **

Would love to hear from some longstanding people with the condition!

I had stopped using my steroid ointment when my symptoms went away. That was a big mistake because now almost a year later. But there are other things that i think are causing my irritation too like the hard water in the city where I live. They use chlorine and ammonia to treat the water.

    dear Claire

I have used the steroids for ten years now and was advised by a top female specialist doctor to use them every day! As my condition is stable and well controlled I have been able to reduce that a bit but I still use the creams a few days each week. l think medical opinions vary on how often they should be used but I trust my consultant and I have had no ill effects from regular use. In fact it has helped me. Wish you well. Evie
