Maintenance of VA & Thrush

I thought I would write of my experience with thrush as some may have a similar problem. I've had numerous bouts of thrush in the past before the menopause. With VA this increased but the symptoms have of late changed with mild irritation and no visible discharge and seemingly relieved by the use of thrush cream alone. However this seems to be due to lack of normal discharge and dryness as after examination by the Dr thrush is present but high up inside and clearly visible . Test results have then confirmed this as I was instructed to no longer treat myself and have it confirmed each time. A specialist I was seeing about my VA has recommended a more longterm maintenance treatment.

Although he recommended it for 6 months my Dr wanted to do it for 2 months and review. I can see why as it is alot of medication. Initially I have to take 1 Fluconazole every 3 days fir 3 doses then 1 a week till my review.

I wondered if anyone else has taken this treatment longterm? And has it stopped recurring thrush? Or any unwanted side effects?

You will probably need to put somegoodbacteria back into your body as the flucsnazolemay strip away your good bacteria

I have use it one a day for 12 weeks. Checking my liver function every few weeks.

It did clear according to my specialist but my swabs always come back normal so I didn't really know whether it was thrush. Saw the specialist yesterday to be told my discharge is back ( I told her I always had it ) and she did another swab. I don't want to take the tablets again because of the effects of it has to the liver.. Good luck hope it clears. I also have been told s little discharge it good.

Glad too hear someone else has tried it, even if strangely it wasn't for thrush. Maybe your next swab will reveal the source. Taking daily tablets does sound quite intense maybe the liver thing is why they have spaced mine to weekly. Although noone mentioned it being a problem but I had read about it. Thanks
