I'm sure I suffer with Diverticula, I get bouts of using the Loo often, I have been like this for many years now. I have had investigations & was told I have mild Diverticula. Does anyone take any medication for this? I get the nausea & light headedness, I also feel very week when I get a bout of this & generally feel unwell.

Hi Mars, Jacqueline and Kaz,
Stress and diet are very important! Try not to stress as it leads to inflammation - stay positive, relax, calm thoughts, no anxiety - all that kind of thing! Easier said than done, I know, but loads of research is coming out about how your microbiome affects your overall health - and how your mood affects your microbiome (e.g. feeling anxious makes you not want to eat etc.).
The docs don't always know everything! Eating little and often is very good advice as it doesn't load up your gut, but what you eat is also very important. Little snacks with no veg is not a good idea so make sure you pack lots of healthy, nutritious food into whatever meals you do it. Try to stay off the processed stuff and sugary sweet things. As I said before, there's masses of info for how best to eat on the various discussions here and also on the net. I don't advise fad diets like no oils or no meat but would say that make sure what you do eat is good.
Getting your bowels to do their job daily is always good advice! It's stuff hanging around in there that causes problems! Try not to use the (e.g.) Fibrogel powders (there's various names), if you drink plenty of water and get some exercise like a quick walk that should do it. Again, there will be more advice on here or out there if this is a particular problem for you.
Probiotics? In my opinion you can't take too many. There are billions of them in there so a few more good ones will never do any harm. You need all the help from them that you can get. Try to take a variety by getting some capsules like Jacqueline says and also eating different good live yoghurts (don't stick to just one brand - I love Greek yoghurt with honey and dried apricots but that's just me!). Also kefir which is a fermented drink you can get from Mr Sainsbury. An acquired taste (maybe add something to it and make a smoothie?) but will give you different biotics. Finally, fermented food such as sauerkraut, again an acquired taste but also tops for good flora. Use it as a pickle. Hope this all helps, anything you can do to stop infection, pain, and the need for antibiotics must be good.

Your do's and don'ts are all very well, but they are YOURS, and on the whole unnecessary .Yoghurt's are a pain in the proverbial, capsules keep. You have more or less repeated what I said, with some of your own interpretations. Your suggestions could cause DD owners to check every mouthful,,, NOT necessary. Kefir ,whatever that is, and sauerkraut , should never be allowed out of the jar .

Hi Mars, I have just read your post it is like reading my own words. I have been off work for 3 weeks now with a flare up, its taking over my life now, everyday I wake up feeling nauseous & dizzy, I live with right side pain very low down & have had gynae checks, orthopaedic checks while all the time I knew it was bowel related. I was told as I am not of Asian decent I can't get DD on the right but since been told by consultant that its completely possible, I have had DD since 2005 & its getting worse & worse, the antibiotics make me so unwell too but fail to cure the flare up. I live alone, am 63 now & work full time as a medical secretary, I need to work & want to but this disease is wrecking my life. Only the past 4/5 months has the sick dizzy feeling started & its so debilitating, my tummy blows up like a balloon, right-side pain is every day & left side is so painful when it flared up. Any advice would be so welcome. Thank you. God bless.
