Maybe all my symptoms were caused by Amlodipine

I have been on this med for about 3 years now. Recently I developed a rash at the top of my arms which then spread across the top of my back and my chest. I also suffer with health anxiety so I was getting concerned about it. I finally plucked up the courage to see the gp who said she thought it might be related to the Amlodipine. I couldn't understand this as I've been on it for so long but she says it's possible. She told me to stop taking it straight away and has prescribed a different bp med.
The thing is that I've also been suffering with other symptoms for a long time and never guessed that they could be related to taking this med. After reading posts here I'm now beginning to wonder. The symptoms that I've had (some for quite some time and some more recently are below:
rash
skin flushing
dizzy spells
unsteady on my feet
extremely tired and lethargic
blurred vision
ringing in my ears
sharp pains in my legs
feeling hot
skin on lower arms feels sore and tender to touch
agitation
restless legs
I will probably think of others once I've posted this. Anyway basically a long varied list of symptoms. It never even crossed my mind that Amlodipine could be the cause. I stopped taking it 2 days ago so I suppose I just have to wait and see what happens now and if the symptoms diminish.
Suffering with health anxiety doesn't help because symptoms of illness always make me very anxious and of course I can't remember any I had before starting the Amlodipine. From what I've read on here this seems like it can be a particularly nasty drug.
Thinking of everyone else who has suffered or is still suffering from being prescribed this.

Yeah. I don't know why I keep going back to this AWFUL should-be illegal Norvasc Sh*t. I'm having a unbearable low mood episode lasting for over a week. I started taking the Amlodapine again on Jan 26th. People in my family say I'm nuts when I have 170/110 (maybe I am!), but to go through Norvasc induced death like experience is worse than dying from hypertension.
No more... I said that many times again. Thing is my moods aren't very clear in general but I think I'm starting to put two and two together that EVERY time I'm on the amlodapine, I feel my worst depression. Coincidence? I highly doubt it.

Hi there Cbochner - I am just curious if you are female and pre or post menopausal - the reason why I ask is, as our hormones get depleted, many times our cortisol rises which causes our blood pressure to rise and we then tend to suffer from anxiety, depression & wacky blood sugar levels. I was on Amlodipine for 5 years & weened myself off the drug about 8 months ago (I am still on Irbesartan). I decided to try & get to the root of my blood pressure issues, aside from being stressed, overweight etc. I went to see a naturopath, and had my hormone levels tested (I am 60 years old) my cortisol was very elevated...so I have been working on calming my body with diet, vitamins, acupuncture & self care & my blood pressure has come down. Part of me truly believes that the Amlodipine was such poison to my system that it was ramping up my B/P & cortisol levels. I had so many horrible symptoms on the drug that it clearly was attacking my body. I know some people can tolerate the drug, but then others, simply can’t. I also spent almost 5 years of my life in a quasi depressive state & my health anxiety was through the roof. I am much better now & cant help but think it was all because of the Amlodipine -

Anyone had some good progress being of Amlodipine?
I am two weeks off and still suffer from:
* Depression / Low mood
* Muscle pain - as if a low voltage is sent through my muscles
* Fatigue - no energy and restless at the same time
* Headache
* Facial (SCM muscle) and neck muscle tension
* Dizziness - sometimes extreme
* No life quality
Gone after a few days
* Heart palpatations
* Neck pain diminished
I have been taking Amlodine 2.5 mg / 5 mg for about a year - part of the time combined with 50 mg Losartan which I quit three days ago. (Suspected to give me dizziness)
Blood pressure has gone up a bit - around 140/86
I guess the side effects needs more time to subside?

Thank you.
Did you experience a gradual improvement - maybe from week to week or did some side effect go away sooner than others?
I think the worst side effects are depression/low mood and the constant dizziness...
Which I hope will subside soon - as in NOW!

It takes 10 to 14 days for Amlodipine to clear the body ..
After 14 days .. the mental issues like brain fog and memory and such should clear .. including swollen legs and rashes ....
However .. the drug mechanism has created some side effects ... these side effects will take time to go off even though the drug has cleared the body...
These include the mood and anxiety... the bloated and gerd.. the fatigue and weakness .. and all the test .. Will take time ...

Very helpful indeed
I have been off Amlopidin for two weeks today and still suffer from negative thinking, dizziness, fatigue, chest pain and tinnitus to mention a few.
Just waiting for a miracle to happen as I have been suffering way too long.
Best regards

I have been off Amlopidin for two weeks today and Losartan for four days. No medication at the moment.
I am well supplied with vitamins, including a B combo, magnesium, and fish oil capsules. I consider to double my magnesium intake

I just started taking amlodipine about 2 months ago. It was to replace clonidine, as I was trying to get away from drugs with psych effects. Doc had me on clonidine for anxiety and insomnia, but it made my insomnia far worse. Also, I was way overmedicated, .2mg 4x daily.
So I weaned off clonidine gradually. But the rebound high blood pressure was awful, so i'm up to 10 mg AM. I hate the amlodipine! Restless leg syndrome, chest pain, shoulder and neck pain, and throat irritation. All of this still prevents sleep.
I take 5 mg twice a day and and going to start weaning myself down gradually. I have a BP monitor and plan on radically changing my diet and losing some weight.
I'm just done with meds and their side effects!
