Mehopause and condition of hair

Can the fact that hair goes thinner affect having your hair dyed? I have noticed since the menopause started with me that the dye is only lasting half the time and my hair looks washed out and light and flyaway. Bit of a random one I know but would appreciate hearing anybody else's experience of this!

Hi Diane i get exactly what you mean and agree mines not been the same since menopause. iv never had good thick hair but these last 2 years its just gone so thin and fly away and like you say i dont think the dye is lasting. i have a longish choppy bob at the moment and always seem to put it up in a pony tail because its just so fly away and ends up sticking to my face. iv noticed i can see my forehead through my fringe more now. infact iv hardly a fringe. BUT as i have so many horrendous symptoms of meno iv stopped caring about the hair prob

Hi, thanks for replying. My hair has always been fine and flyaway but now like you it has gone even thinner. Funnily enough it doesn't feel dry but just LOOKS like a bag of straw!

Oh lord yes!! My hair is much frizzier, brittle, and it looks like someone shaved a cat after my baths from my hair loss. Ive noticed hair dye makes my hair come off brassy or rusty looking now (im a natural blond but i dye my hair to get rid of grays) and the hair dye now makes me sick the next day after dying! I will have a headache and be nauseous for about 2-3 days...hair dye used not to bother me until perimenopause! Its cruel

Hi, thanks for replying! Yes my hair looks fine for 3 weeks after dyeing, I have it died a lightish brown colour but after that it looks pale and washed out and it only has to have the hairdryer on it for a few minutes and that completely does it in. I have taken to putting rollers in and not using the dryer hardly at all.

It looks worse than it feels?

I can't afford to have it done more often so I will just put up with it BUT...I have recently changed my hairdresser so is it the dye used by them not being very good or is it me? The only thing i can do is change hairdresser and see.

No estrogen no hair, except on your chin !

I have to dye my hair every 4 weeks now, I used to be able to do it every 6 weeks. I use a gentle dye so my hair doesn't burn or my scalp doesn't feel like it's on fire. Please try Naturtint Permanent Hair Color. Feels good on my head and hair dye gets all my grays. Please ladies don't give up, find solutions and start your new life without a care about periods or cramps. I understand once we are through this life is wonderful. Did you hear the speech from Kirsten Scott on Fleabag, it was wonderful.

Here is the speech I was talking about on Fleabag by Kristen Scott Thomas.....

"I’ve been longing to say this out loud," she begins, leaving us wondering which of our shared secrets she is about to spill. "Women are born with pain built in. It’s our physical destiny – period pains, sore boobs, childbirth. We carry it within ourselves throughout our lives. Men don’t. They have to seek it out. They invent all these gods and demons so they can feel guilty about things, which is something we do very well on our own. And then they create wars so they can feel things and touch each other and when there aren’t any wars they can play rugby. We have it all going on in here, inside. We have pain on a cycle for years and years and years, and then just when you feel you are making peace with it all, what happens? The menopause comes. The fg menopause comes and it is the most wonderful fg thing in the world. Yes, your entire pelvic floor crumbles and you get f*****g hot and no one cares, but then you’re free. No longer a slave, no longer a machine with parts. You’re just a person. In business."

Not had this problem, my hair just really dry n brittle no matter how much I try to rehydrate it, usually, from what I learnt thru hair stylist, the condition of hair does depend how long a colour will last.
