Menopause, awful symptoms

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi,

Since my hysterectomy two and a half years ago, I've been getting more and more awful symptoms of the menopause.

I have night sweats - about three a night on average, I'm soaked shivery and not getting enough sleep.

The day sweats - about 20 a day, each last for about 5 minutes, again I'm wet through, my scalp is wet and for the first time I have dandruff as big as my thumb nail with seeping boil like spots which oooze if you press them.

I'm disabled with a hearing and balance problem (plus vertigo) and can't wash my hair or have a bath without help - I haven't the energy to do it every day.

My face is covered with spots (I used to get them with every period, now I have them all the time)

I have no energy, I try to eat healthily

My doctor does not agree with HRT,

Basically I'm suicidal.

You poor girl!! HRT could help. Change your doctor or get a referal to a Gyvaecologist or go to a women's clinic. You can't put up with all of that! Meanwhile, using a tar based shampoo might help and try blow drying your hair on a cool setting after the sweats.

      Hi, thanks for your reply,

I can't hear on phone very well so I've written an email to both the practice manager and one of the other doctors in the practice, we'll see what happens......

I don't usually blow dry my hair, except if it's really cold or I'm going out into the cold.

The best shampoo I've found so far (they discontinued the polytar one I was using) is a natural rosemary, tea tree and cypruss from a shop who does a range of natural products, it does help, but it's not getting to the problem.

    Hi there

I am so sorry to hear your pain.

No sleep makes the hard stuff so much worse.

I am working hard on my stuff but have a supportive GP

Perhaps you can get help from a woman's clinic?

Sending my thoughts and good wishes

Aww that is awful ...... It's your right to have HRT!!! Your choice!!!! Change your doctor PLS!! You should not have to suffer like this when there are things that can make it less traumatic that's unacceptable from your doctor! See another Doc and demand to see a specialist it's your right!!! That is shocking to be left with no help. I know it's very upsetting and we lose so much confidence when we feel so rotten but you must stand your ground and tell them enough is enough!! They will soon listen I promise you.... PLS see someone else... Keep us updated.... Sending out a big hug xx

    Hello Wen,

I'm so sorry to hear your'e having it so bad.  Are you in the UK. Surely your'e doctor must be able to prescribe HRT, or something else which would help.

I asked my doctor for HRT last week and she said no because I am still perimenopausal.  She said when I became menopausal then she would prescribe it if I was having symptons.  Your'e surgery must have a doctor who is willing to help.

    Please dont give up hope.

      Hi,

      Thanks for your message,

      Yes, I'm in the U.K.

I've sent emails to the practice manager and to one of the other doctors,

I've also written a back up letter, so hopefully they will listen.

It was the same when I was having my first vertigo attacks - I knew it was MD (my dad had had it since he was in his late 20's, so I knew the signs, symptoms etc)

They took months to refer me to specialists AND when I went back to my doctor (A different one then) He hadn't even heard of Meniere's Disease.

It doesn't exactly fill you with confidence does it!

      xXx

      Hi,

Just to clarify, My vertigo is caused by Meniere's disease. I've had it since 2000, my dad had it from the age of 26 (thanks dad!) I've had surgery but there is no cure for it.

      Hi Carole,

I've had Gentamicin surgery to left ear, unfortunately i'm completely deaf that side (I knew the risks, but was having spins every other night for 2+ years so went for it) Six months later I started spins in right ear. There are things they can try - steroids, grommets, improved Gentamicin, etc but I don't want to risk losing what hearing i have left. I still take Serc, but I don't think it's doing that much good.

      Hi Wen,

I'm afraid I dont really know if my friend had any operations for the meniers. He did work fulltime for many years, but took early retirement in his mid fifties as it was all getting too much. I know he had headaches, nausea, dizziness, and had a hearing aid from his twenties, possibly now in both ears,  I know he takes medication for the dizziness, but dont know if it helps a great deal. He has got very depressed sometimes as well. I havent seen him for a few years, and I know all this doesnt really help you much - I'm sorry. And I know this is forum for ladies troubles. I just wanted you to know that I do really understand how awful it is to have meniers, and how horrible it must be as well as coping with perimenopause.

Hang on in there. I'm sure your'e GP can help with the perimenopause stuff.

      XXX.
