Migraine or should I seek further advice?

For the last 3 months I have been experiencing mild headaches on the left side of my head, bumping into things (again left side) and smelling a burning type smell that I appear to be the only one smelling. Last week I woke up with lines and flashing lights in my left eye, poor vision, nausea and again a headache. Since then, I have had these headaches a number of times a day which brings dizziness and sickness, some points I feel I am about to pass out. I am constantly sleeping too, stayinh awake for longer than an hour is difficult and usually end up falling asleep, despite having a good night sleep. I have seen my GP, optician and consultant at my local hospital all saying these are classic migraine symptoms however, none of the medication work... should I ask for this to be taken further or accept this as a migraine? I am starting to worry as I do not feel any better.

Hi Hayley have you been offered an MRI? They should do an MRI which is what they did with me, although I'm still waiting for my results as my neurologist is running weeks behind, to be on the safe side. Hope you go on ok smile

Hi, thanks for replying! I have only had it mentioned as a possibility. However, they did add in how "expensive" it also is, made me feel as though my changes could be slim to getting one?! I spent roughly 7 hours in hospital today, given 3 different medications but 2 hours later of coming home I again have a headache and feel sick and very tired, even though I slept for about 3 hours in the hospital. I am happy to accept this as migraine attacks however, being considered as a healthy 20 year old girl, I just feel that perhaps looking further may put my mind at ease?

    Hi Hayley,

Yes, without doubt you need further investigations, nag your GP if you need to as sometimes they will fob you off.  As kate has said, you need an MRI in the first instance, this will give the neurologist much needed info on your brain to check all is ok.

I am sure all is ok, but still you need it checked.  The fact that you feel so sleepy is an indication something is not right.  So, its nag your GP time Hayley.

    Good luck and best wishes

Thank you! Yeah I think I need to, worrying about work will not be helping much so yeah, time to nag!

What else has changed in your life within in the past six months? New food choices, new work or environment, new stresses, use of new product, including cosmetics?

Yes, I moved temporarily to a different building in work. The office we were in was not the best, every week someone was off sick with either a bug or a cold including myself. Iv had either a bug or cold 5 times since February. After getting over one thing id shortly catch something else.

There may be something in the heat/cooling ducts, carpeting (if new and treated with a chemical). There are so many things that may contribute to the symptoms you, and others are having. Get together and compare notes with others and see if there is a connection somewhere. It's a mystery you may need to solve yourself. Be deligent in looking for the source.

Hi! I have another appointment on Thursday so hopefully I get somewhere! I have also noticed my left ear feels blocked and today I have had buzzing in it, my ears have been checked and are clean? I'm starting to feel as if I'm mad now 🙁

No you are not mad Hayley, just have this annoying condition that blights all of our lives on here,  Once you have had your MRI you can move forward and get a plan to control your condition.

Good luck on Thursday Hayley and do let us know how you get on.

      Take care
