Mild OB - Meds or not?

Posted , 4 users are following.

ok so I seem to jump back on this site every time I have an OB.  This is my 3rd OB in 4 months. All have been VERY mild. The 1st one I actually let go away on its own and it took about two weeks. The 2nd one I took the medicine for and it went away by day 3 of the meds and this one I noticed coming on yesterday and I havent taken the medicine yet. I am wondering if its better to just let it take its course instead of jumping on the meds. I hate taking meds if I dont have to. Also, If anyone else doesnt take med for it, how long does it take to go away on its own?

I still haven't taken any meds and mine are mild as well, so it's hard to tell when they exactly start or stop! But I'm guessing a handful of days at most?

i noticed soreness when i was wiping after the bathroom yesterday so i knew it was coming. today slightly worse. my husband works out of state and hes coming home next thursday so i want it to be gone by then. lol i am going to let it go for the weekend and see how it does.

I think a week should be good. Mine seemed to be about that long at most. Your recurrences sound a lot like mine, btw. What's weird, however, is that I have this one lesion from my first outbreak months ago that is still kinda visible! And it is not always due to a recurrence, I don't think. Not sure what's up with that and might ask my doctor.

Its VERY werid. I dont know what causes mine. I have started working out and eating better about 3 weeks ago. But all 3 of my OBs have occurred the week before my period. It skipped one month (Novemeber) and didnt have a OB then. I dont even know. lol I know the first year as more occurrences and I dont want to have to go on suppressive medication.

Do you have certain signals and signs that you are having an outbreak ?

I don't know what triggers mine I haven't had an more outbreaks but I got diagnosed about a month and half ago and I know they will soon come and I have fear of it.

I haven't triggered any by my period , rough sex , or stress yet so I can say I'm thankful because those are the main triggers

i havent really figured it out either. i got diagnosed 4 months ago and have had 3 very mild outbreaks. about one a month except november. the 3 i got seem to be right before my period. but sex, stress, alcohol, diet etc. hasnt caused it.. the only sign i noticed for this OB was that i got slightly sore in the spot that it was coming. only when i wipe.. it always only hurts when i wipe or pee.

You probably won't get any, or barely any at all, since you said you got it from a cold sore. If that's true, then it's not the same.

      Um no ,

After reading everything that you said and everybody else & calling my doctor back about my tests I actually have HSV type 2

And from what my friend said . That's the type she had too. I had it all wrong but I'm slowly but surely figuring it all out

So Since I have type two will I be getting a lot of outbreaks ? Constantly ?

    • Posted

The test result actually said Type 2? That sucks! Did you tell you giver, as that's quite different to thinking she only has oral Type 1.

They say Type 2 outbreaks on average ~5 times a year. Since that's an average, there are some who are lucky and rarely outbreak, and others who are unlucky and have upwards of 10 outbreaks per year. Hard to say. First year is supposed to be the worst (and most infectious as a result).

I wonder if to take the meds myself, im not sure if they helped or not with my first outbreak. But then again my first outbreak has been my only.

I wonder though, since youve had several now, do you ever right before an OB get a tingling slightly burning sensation right before?

I have felt this, three times since after my first outbreak and i fear its an outbreak coming on. But then nothing seems to happen down there....so far anyways

    • Posted

Ive felt tingling sometimes too but nothing happens either. My OB are all random with no warning. This time i didnt notice anything except slight soreness in that spot. My first OB i got tested twice and they didnt give me meds right away. by that point, my OB was already clearing up and it took two weeks. I rather just deal with the slight symptoms if itll just go away on its own in a few days then have to take the meds every time.

I don't get any tingling either, maybe just a bit of itching. Think I'm starting to notice the itching before what I suspect is a mild recurrence. Hard to say for sure, though. Recurrences really can just occur without any obvious warning, and they can be mild and confusing (not always sure if it's even a recurrence!).

I just wish mine werent so frequent at this point. even tho they are mild it is still annoying and i dont want to go on suppressive therapy

I don't care to go on suppressive therapy either, unless I'm sexually active with a negative partner, but that ain't going to happen anytime soon, lol, so I'm staying med-free for the foreseeable future. But, yeah, I don't like recurrences, even if mild. Serves to remind me that I'm stuck with this virus for life!

      i know sad

I am married so im not worried about suppressive meds. we're trying to get pregnant too. ugh lol

    • Posted

Does your partner know you have herpes?. I dont think that suppressive meds can affect you if your pregnant. They are meant to help stop the virus being spread im not sure if they stop the virul shedding too. I do know they are good for getting rid of OB quickly though. I take lysine 1000 mg a day and oregano oil rubbed in the bas sure its helping yet I do think my period brought my last episode on and previously too.

Sorry I didn't quite finish message and it sent. I rub the oil at the base if my spine where the virus is supposed to lay dormant between episodes.

If all this doesn't work in time im going on the meds as I don't want to pass the virus on to my partner

      Good luck

I think its ok to take meds and herbal meds if your trying for a baby but check with your GP first. How long did you take the lysine for? Ive only been taken it for a few months religiously. How did you feel when you caught the HSV ? 1or 2 . Ive told my partner I have HSV but not genital im not brave enough yet. I told him I get cold sores which I have in the passed and that you can pass it on orally. I only ever have a tiny bump now and again and im careful not to have sex when its there. I was diagnosed a long time ago 15 years approx.

i have HSV2 and i havent even told him yet because im afraid hes going to think i cheated on him. he works out of state for months at a time and everytime i have gotten an OB, he hasnt been home but im pretty sure i got it from him cause hes had some bumps down there before but just assumed was dry skin but he said it hurt so i think thats what it is. its so mild that i can see why some people might not even think that have it. i really havnt figured out a good time or way to tell him yet. i think if he ever gets another OB, im going to just tell him to go get checked and go from there.

as far as the lysine goes, i researched everything right when i found out and got the lysine right away and started it but then stopped, and started again lol.. so pretty off and on.. have you noticed that you havnt been getting OB as often with taking the lysine?

Well since being in a relationship for 4 months its poped up more but its so mild you cant see it but it is itchy and sore. Who knows he may have the virus too and keeps passing it back and fourth they say 80% of us have the virus anyway or maybe its HSV 1 not sure. Its hard to know who gave to who aswell because it ca lay dormant for years so its a hard one to know really. I would just say to him you have had some itching down below and your going to be checked out and asked him too too. Sorry to say this but do you trust him if his away a lot dont mean to be suggesting his been unfaithfull but maybe his afraid to tell you too he may have symptoms .

Its so hard im in a state over it all too but im getting better reading other people's stories especially the positive ones where couples have been together for years and not passed it on.

I know hes not doing anything while hes away cause he works on a ship with a bunch of guys. they arent allowed to go out or leave the boat after hours so im not worried at that. and he said he was tested before we got together but im thinking HSV is hard to test for without an OB visable unless you specifically ask for that type of blood test. i bet he didnt get that check. he probably just got tested for the typical Chlymidia, gonnareah, hiv ... but you're right, theres really no telling who gave who what.. im not too worried about it tho since it is so mild.. just going to take it day by day and if something happens to pop up when hes home, on either of us, ill suggest a visit to the doctor for sure.

Oh thats good sorry I didn't mean to be negative but I'm pleased for you thats his only on a ship with men lol. This site is so good for advice when you can't talk to friends and family.

Keep intouch let me know how it all goes and ill let you know my story too.

      God bless

Sorry, but you do realise that lysine is not clinically proven, and even if it helps some people, it does not reduce transmission risks? Nor does oregano oil, which isn't going to do much of anything at all on your back. Only the antiviral meds significantly reduce transmission, and even then, they're not 100%.

If you have Type 2 in particular and are outbreaking more often recently (sex can be a trigger, btw), you could be exposing your new partner of four months -- even with condoms, and definitely without -- whom you've hidden your exact status from. Long-term couples who have not transmitted the virus are not at all in the same category as couples in new relationships when it comes to transmission.

Also, that 80% figure is only for Type 1, and predominantly oral Type 1 at that. Genital Type 2 is only about 20% in the US and 10% in most of Europe (incidence of genital Type 1 is way lower). Big difference, and just pointing out the misinformation you seem to have read.

P.S. Forgot to add, you cannot pass genital herpes back and forth. It is for life. Sex, however, can trigger recurrences in some people, which may make it seem like it's being passed back and forth, but that's not the case at all. Herpes can reactivate as a result of trauma, and the friction of sex is a form of trauma to the skin down there.

If your husband has HSV type 2 does that mean he cheated on you ? Or he had it before you ?
    • Posted

We've only been married for 8 months and together for a 2 1/2 years total
    • Posted

I know. I'm not worried about the transmission. I'm just trying to lessen the frequency in any natural way I can. The antiviralsvare good and all but I like doing things the natural way if I can. If the lysine helps then that's great, if not then I'll try and suck it up until it goes away on its on

Sex doesn't trigger mine. I haven't figured out my trigger yet
    • Posted

Sounds like menstruation could possibly be a trigger for you. You'll know after a few more months! Yeah, you're lucky your husband already has it, as that makes things soooo much easier! I probably wouldn't bother with meds if I were you, unless your recurrences become bad or too often. I would tell him, though, and that he has it and gave it to you, but that's just me!

Are you a doctor or god !

Well I believe in herbal remedies and its not like there going to do any harm if anything they can help in my opinion. How do you know anymore than any one of us we are all different and act different to lots of medications and herbal remedies, whether proven or not. I just started some herbal medicine for cystitis that is amazing better than any antibiotics it works wonders for me after suffering for years.

Passing on the virus in a new relationship as appossed to being a couple for long term makes a difference? No is my answer to that statement I think is a load if nonsense to be polite ! You could pass the virus on within a day or 2 or months or years just depends on the individual exactly the same if you have lots of outbreaks or not having many including the amount of sores. Where I get my information is on sites like this ie other people's experiences and various other health sites . Im a people's person and believe in helping one another with any advice thats helped me. All the statistics ive read on HPV 1/2 in my opinion isn't proven that accurate either.

Best we all stay celibate then is it in your opinion and become OCD !

Just would like to add ive read some really positive stories on here that give everyone hope and reassurance when your feeling so low and suffering Afer reading your email I felt like its nit worth having a relationship or having any kind of happiness sooo negative!

I've been reading a lot about the lysine and reviews from people who swear by it. I got an OB 3 days ago now and started taking 1000mg of lysine, 2-3 times a day and I think it drastically helped with the pain. There's no painful urination. Only a little soreness when wiping but it seems to be healing already. So I think it definitely helps. after this OB I'm definitely going to start taking one a day again to see if it'll lessen the frequency

It certainly seems to work for some people, just not clinically proven in larger studies, so it is neither recommended nor discouraged by experts. Lysine does not effectively reduce transmission, however, so that's the only important thing to bear in mind, plus super high doses may interfere with mineral absorption.
