Anyone know how to control mind chatter

It drives me mad at night trying to shut my mind up hopefully it's anxiety and not something more serious

Mindfulness but it takes alot of practice. First step is being aware when your thoughts have drifted back to chatter and acknowledging it. Addressing the thoughts, as they are... just thoughts and then working on being in the present.

The best technique I've found for this is to find 5 objects in the room you can see...name them, describe them. Then 4 things you can hear. 3 things you can touch. 2 things either taste or smell and then take 1 big breath in/out followed by another.

Amen to what Caz is suggesting!  Mindfulness exercises help a lot.  I wouldn’t have been able to implement them without the help of a mindfulness skills class, but others have success looking into mindfulness into their own, too.

I usually try to do a deep breathing exercise, it helps me fall asleep and it also distracts me when I'm focused on the breathing in and out etc

By 'mind chatter' do you mean racing thoughts that you can't turn off? That is a typical anxiety issue which prevents good quality sleep.

Talk to your GP and he can prescribe one of the Benzodiazepine medications which relax you and help you sleep. They are essentially a tranquilizer. Valium can also be used. They worked great for me when I couldn't turn my mind off during a bad spell of anxiety a year ago. Good luck.

❤️ have you ever heard of the app “Headspace”?  They have some helpful guided meditations to get out into the mode of mindfulness.  Eventually, the mediations are less about the guided parts, and more about “you time” without the speaker- whichever you prefer.

Headspace is GREAT! I have used those meditations to help me relax in the past.
