Mindfulness and meditation. It helps

How many of you have tried this, it was something that I never thought about but I am finding it to be really helpful, I am working through 2 things, the first on is the headspace app on the anxiety programme, it helps me to realise that my issue is negative thinking and shows me how to recognise this and help to change the pattern. The other thing is a book called mindfulness, finding peace in a frantic world, this is an 8 week programme and helps me move out of auto pilot and back to the present, once again recognise the negative thoughts and how to change them, it does take a bit of work but I am finding that it is slowly changing, and at least I know why I feel this way and that changes can be made.

I reccomend every one tries it xx

    Hi Kerry!

I recently started meditation too for the same reasons and oddly enough am using the book you mention.  Mindfulness in a frantic world, the 8 week program is easy to follow and really worth it to help restore mental balance.  I also found the tracks on an app called SoundCloud.  I find yoga really beneficial too.  We need to be more present and learn to just “be” instead of running the auto pilot button non stop.  We all are very familiar with doing, planning, getting things done but we neglect appreciating the here and now and unfortunately that can lead to neglecting our own self care.   The book points out these things beautifully.  Medication helps but these other elements like mindfulness, yoga, exercise, nutrition, good sleep, positive social ties etc are paramount to healing and helping us to live our best lives!

    Take care xo

Starting week 4 this week.  Week 3 the meditation exercises are a bit longer - tracks 3, 4 and eight.  To confess some days I just did the combo once daily instead of twice.  It’s hard to fit in 20 mins twice daily I found.  But being gentle with myself and happy I’m meditating at all. Xo

Thank you for this Kerry. I will check out the book on mindfulness.

I have started Sertraline two days ago, as suffering from anxiety and over worrying. I am very scared of the side effects. A year ago I tried Fluoxetine and the first 8 weeks were hell with the side effects and even increased anxiety. I wonder what it will be like on Sertraline but very worried it might be similar.

I agree with you, trying to learn to be more in the moment and change the thoughts can make a big difference. It is not so easy though with the way our brain can be wired already through past traumas. I found that running really helped me last year too. Physical exercise is mindfulness too, as focusing on the present, the breathing, the movement, the targets.

I hope we all improve soon, with all the tools at disposal! smile

    Hello,

I have downloaded the Mindfulness app recently and also finding it helpul. I’ve been on Sertraline 200mg for the last 15 years for Anxiety / Depression and found it worked like a magic. I gave up smoking at New Year and all the old symptoms came flooding back. I upped the dose to 300mg but it didn’t really help so I’m back on 200mg. I do feel better but not back to normal yet. Have good and bad days and good and bad nights. Just thought the Mindfullness might help. It went away for 15 years and just hoping I can get 100% better again for my myself and especially my wife and kids.
