Mini Mono vision for near - intermediate

Hi

I am 53, have just done ( 3 days ago) my second cataract surgery to my left eye.

The right eye was done about a week earlier.

currently the results are :

Right eye : -2.25 D

Left eye : -1.5 D

My dominant eye is the right eye.

Its very comfortable to read with my right dominant eye - i am not feeling the blur in the second eye.

However, when reading the comp or looking more distant, using my non dominant eye, especially at low light condition, I do see the blur from my right eye. Is it just a matter of time to adapt ?

Hi Roni, go to youtube and search for a video titled "How to get the best from Monovision". I have no personal experience with it, but found the idea behind the training reasonable. Not sure why this or something similar is not provided to patients who have gone the monovision route.

Thanks Chris - i know this video, will look into it more. I wish there was more material on the web about this.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect distance vision without glasses given those residual numbers. It seems your lenses were selected to provide near and intermediate correction without glasses, but the compromise was the distance vision. I think I would get prescription glasses for distance only, or get progressives so they could be left on all the time.

I don't expect distant vision, the plan was to be at home mostly without glasses and outside with glasses. I am just wondering weather my intermediate range with my left non dominant eye will work out well.

I believe the normal practice is to use the non-dominant eye for near vision and the dominant eye for distance vision. Yours are the reverse, and that may be part of the issue. However there are some studies which indicate that doing the reverse, which is called crossed monovision, does work well in most cases. Try a search for the following article.

      .

Crossed monovision may be as effective as conventional monovision

      It's really good news.

In my case it looks like that dominance do play some role. With reading i do not have any issue. Maybe adjusting time is longer...

I will keep looking also for practical techniques to improve adapting to it.

      Thanks Ron

    Hi,

I'm 50 years old. I have the right eyes as my dominant eye. Before the surgery, I have the prescription -15.0 for both eyes.I have done my surgery 6 and 8 weeks ago with the target -0.75 on left and 0 on right, which is also as mini mono vision setup. It turns out I have the -0.75 on both eyes now while the eyes are getting healed by themselves. I didn't experience any blury issue you have mentioned. I dont have any issue to drive at night either. I use Acrysof IQ monofocual lens. I wish your situation will get better later and might give yourself a little time to see the result you expect.
