Rest assured of one thing, the sedation and the dreams are a well known and common side effect with most folk on this forum.
As you are seeing the doctor and have only been on Mirt' for 7 days (you don't say what dose you started on but mention reducing to 20mg) I would "think" that reducing the 30mg by half over a week or so, then a quarter for the second week might be best. But to be sure, make sure you can take this with any other drugs the doc' might give you.
Wishing you well Jillian.

Maybe worth discussing with your doctor about a different anti depressant. My friend and my ex girlfriend are both on 100mg of sertraline and have done really well on it.
However it was the worst 3 months of my life. Started looking up suicide on the net and all sorts of things. Didn't want to be here any more..
Please talk it over with your gp. There are many anti depressants out there. It's just unfortunate we have to find wich one works for us by trial and error.
Wishing you the best
Rich

When you talk to your doc, ask for Vortioxetine. It's a fairly new medication that does all the good stuff that Mirtazapine does, but without the weird dreams, without the sedation and especially without the weight gain!
