Hi guys
ive been looking at some of the comments on this group and there seems to be more negative than positive
granted mirtazapine isnt for everyone, however for me its been ok .. my mood and overall energy has improved tenfold and my sleep is amazing ...
im currently on 15mg a day however my gp wants to increase this to 30mg,however i may ask can i increase by 7.5mg instead of doubling the dose ....
why have so many people come off this drug .....i would be interested to know, however for me its been a success
cheers

i dont mind the weight gain .. im 51 and have been 11st up to the age of 48,and for years i tried to bulk up ... as long as i dont get obese ...
mornings are pretty good for me ... im allways up before my wife and find mornings easier than before i started mirtazapine
tiredness again isnt a problem .... but as many have stated mirtazapine affects people in different ways .... i was prescribed citalopram 18 months ago and thought my world was ending ....i may not be able to tolerate ssri,s .. were as mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant which not only hits the seretonin site in the brain ( like ssri,s ) but also the noradrenaline also ....
however its impossible to create a anti-depressant that can be tolerated by everyone as we all have different emotions, thoughts and feelings ....
take care

Started on 45mg appetite came back immediately just couldn’t believe it.
After 3 months reduced to 30 mg with no apparent side effects I then started to be aware that I had put on nearly a stone in weight
I decided the time was right for me to go it alone and quit this drug which had saved me initially I was in a lot stronger head space.
On reflection just as well my head space
Was strong because as I reduced to 15 mg the withdrawal side effects kicked in
Gradually reduced to 7.5 and now at alternate days of 7.5 to a 0.25 mls if oral solution
I am doing well will be glad when it is completely gone
Good luck stay on a low dose if you can
It is a very slow process coming of this drug

Gain weight. I do care about the way I look so I didn't like this ideal at all. I use estacilopram only and so far so good I touch wood))

Hi Brian
I think I can answer that by saying that it's because the medics refuse to accept that there are serious side effects when wanting to stop this drug. GPs refuse to acknowledge that a great deal of people on mirtazapine have severely struggled when trying to stop taking it. Many doctors give the impression that this is an easy drug to stop and know little about it. And ultimately nobody wants to have to take these mind drugs indefinitely. That's were the problems start. It is a very difficult drug to stop for many. And then there is no support when experiencing these vicious withdrawals.
I stopped it cold turkey after 5 months because of the unstoppable weight gain. I'm a runner and a hill walker and eat healthily. I have never been overweight in my life. This drug slows the metabolism in a lot of people. Plus it never did much for my anxiety.
ADs will always have a place in treating patients when they have experienced traumatic life events. Every patient is different as you have admitted and whilst it works for you and doubtless many others, it did not work for me. Coming off this drug was one of the worst experiences of my life. And worse when you are left to deal with a withdrawal that the medics deny exist.
Best wishes to you
