recently lowered mirtaz to 3.75mg. Anxiety seems worse. Also take diazepam, seem to need more since trying to get off mirtaz. Will this pass after time off anti dep?

It will go away. Just plenty of rest and ginger tea is amazing for nasuea, I also used hot water bottle😊I didnt start any AD as they put me on fluoxetine and even tho I was on it before for 7 years this time my body rejected it. It made everything worse and tbh I feel better without anything. Anxiety is still here but it was even worse on ADs. Just trying to let it go and not to bother me anymore. Enough is enough. Its what I keep telling myself.

Yes it will get better but only slowly. Coming off any meds will cause an anxiety rebound and you'll probably have trouble sleeping although the diazepam will help this in some regard. No doubt you'll be coming off the benzo's as well sometime soon as you really don't want to be taking those long term. Don't want to worry you but expect a very rocky withdrawal from those. I've done venlafaxine, fluoxetine, clozaril, benzodiazepine, mirtazapine withdrawals and they all cause prolonged periods of irrational anxiety. I'm in the midst of pregabalin withdrawal at the moment and I've never known anything so bad, I took it for G.A.D but omg my anxiety is through the roof along with a whole host of other hellish symptoms. Never go on this medication if your offered it for your anxiety...it's a horrendous poison basically. I'm getting a 4 week supply of diazepam tomorrow to help with the withdrawal from this and then I'm going to have to do benzo withdrawal again...swap one withdrawal for another but benzo is more tolerable than this one. How many mg of diazepam are you taking? You will come out of this a stronger and more educated person especially in regard that all these meds are better left alone as they cause a shrinking of the hippocampus(essentially brain damage) and it's healthier to live with your symptoms medication free. I sometimes feel we're all involved in one big shrouded human clinical trial at times. A good book to read is Cracked - why psychiatry is doing more harm than good by James Davies...eye watering stuff. Hope you get through this but the only way to do it is to ride out all the negative emotional states of being you will get whilst withdrawing knowing that it will get better very gradually. Hang on in there!

i am on 2mg daytime, 5mg night time. Do you think this withdrawal will be brutal, i know they all are to a degree. I plan to go down from five to four and a half, stop, then four, stop, etc. I hope that doesnt increase the need in daytime but will need to wait and see.
you have extensive experience of withdrawals so i respect your views, they are better than the ones i got from gp!

Hi Simon, I cold turkeyed mirtazapine 10 weeks ago .reinstated at 3.9mg at 5.5 weeks the 7.5mg for 8 days and at 7 weeks went back to my original dose but it has been he'll with horrific anxiety. Seemed to have got worse when I started initial 15mg dose again. Been on it3 weeks but not any improvement. Just took my first diazepam 30 mins ago should this help and should I just take it when I really need it about once per day. Do these withdrawals take a long time to go?

Hi Ann, I was on 30mg of mitazipine and went to zero over the course of 3 days. The withdrawals started by day 2 when I was taking 10 mg. From what I remember the symptoms were as follows:-
1) rebound anxiety- extreme.
2) irritability/moodiness.
3) difficulty focusing/concentrating/memory problems
4) not feeling like yourself/ depersonalisation.
5) headaches- prolonged.
6) fatigue- long term(3 months).
7) insomnia- long term( 4/5 months)
8) body aches and pains -back,chest and limbs
9) shakes/tremors akin to alcohol withdrawal.(2/3 weeks)
10) itching
11) nausea
12) loose stools
13) mentally vivid dreams if you do manage to catch a few zzzzz's
14) diziness(3months)
15) sadness with bouts of irrational crying
16) depression
17) tachycardia - beta blockers(propranolol) can help with this but withdrawing from those is just as bad.
18) agoraphobia.
19) GABA neurotransmitters will start over firing/ get over excited by their trying to readjust causing fear, anxiety, pessimism. The benzo's should help with this but they will only return when you finally give those up. You basically just can't win and I also searched for a magic bullet and went down the supplement route taking thiamine, vitamin b complex, vitamin c, magnesium, zinc, Kalms capsules containing hop strobiles with extracts of valerian and gentian, Kalms lavender capsules and a multivitamin. I also tried to cut out caffeine as much as possible and drunk camomile tea and a tea called sleepy tea which contains natural herbs supposed to promote sleep and reduce anxiety. I know these things didn't take the symptoms away totally but they may have reduced the severity but I'm just not sure. I hope this answers your question to some degree and doesn't fill you with utter dread but another thing to remember is that the withdrawal process varies from person to person dependent upon time on medication, dosage, tolerance levels, metabolism, diet, fat storages, weight, age and any other underlying health problems. You may think you're losing your mind but remember your not, it's just readjusting back to its normal natural state. Hang on in there, stay strong and try to flush your system with lots and lots of fruit, vegetables and water. You're in my mind, Simon.

on your discontinuation did you feel depressed and did it get worse as time went on? I am just feeling like the pits and am thinking of putting dosage up again but i know it still wont take away all, symptoms as it never has.
