hi, i am on a horrible journey with MITRAZAPINE 45mg. i was on 30 mg back in NOVEMBER and told to cut down 15 mg a day. AFTER ABOUT DAY 3 i felt as if i was going mad, shaking adjitation and flu like symptoms no sleep being sick not eating , my blood count went strange and the most awful pains in my back and stomoch etc, the doctor was very unsympothetic and started me on citalopram but i felt as if i was going mad. she told me to go back to 30 mg of mitrazapine and come back after CHRISTMAS.when i went back she upped my dose to 45 mg of MITRAZAPINE but i feel they are too strong, i am on about week 6 of this higher dose and feel as if my whole body is tingling all the time and cant sleep, have lost a stone in weight and feel sick all the time. i want to reduce these down to 30 mg on my own but need advice on tappering it slowley, i do have a few 15 & 30 mg tablets.

you are not going crazy. This awful drug makes you think you are but you are not. I have fully recovered from 4 years on it. I tapered for over 10 months and have been off 6 months and feel better than ever. Hang on, I promise you will get through this.

I am sure there are better ways but I did not want to do a liquid taper so I just took a knife and sliced the tiniest piece off the pill. I would stay as close to the amount as I could for 3-4 weeks. If I was pretty stable, I would shave a little more off. I kept doing this until I was down to a crumb. I finally was done. I had a lot of nausea which I treated with dramamine. Good luck! You can do this.

Thank you, it seems that both going on and coming off are horrendous.

Listen carefully and do like this and you will most probably have a smooth taper.

Buy a splitter at a pharmacy and cut small pieces. Keep written records and taper about ten % a month.

And I cannot state how important it is to:

Drink A LOT of water everyday. I would seriously say a gallon or two per day.

    Eat healthy.

Do exercise. Walk, swim, run, gym. As long as you do half an hour everyday AND SWEAT.

Do this and I would seriously say that you will get through.

THANK YOU. i have read before about the water why is this so important just out of interest ? Its the eating that is a major problem for me I don't have any appetite amongst other things, so i feel i don't have the energy for exercise but am still doing it.

Using a splitter for gradual, slow tapering and keeping daily records is good advice. But be a little cautious about drinking too much water. It takes a lot to damage the brain, but going to extreme excess can have serious consequences. Obviously, doing strenuous exercise does need more hydration.

ok, yes thank you. so if i have a 30 and 15 mg tablet should i 1/4 the 15 mg and stay like that for ?????..... i don't want to stop altogether at this stage. This is if I can get my doctor to agree..

Although not dangerous it seems a bad idea to go up and down like your doc told.

Anyhow, why its so important with water no one knows for sure although the best guess would be a cleaning of the system. Humans are mainly made of water.

When start tapering with a splitter, go 10% every 25-30 days. If feeling unsure or its too much , stop on one level for a while. Continue when feel ok or better. No stress. Take it easy but do go, do not go back !!A taper from 45 will for sure take a while, do not rush but do go.

AND, remember with water, training (sweating) because if one skip this, I really think it could be 10 times harder.

Good luck and you will be fine, promise !!

When down to 7,5, come back here at forum for advise.

i went to the doctors today to ask for some 30 + 15 tablets so i could reduce my dose very slowly. You may or may not be surprised at this but she listened to my reduction plan and said she could suggest an easier way than to cut the tablets ( i thought she would offer liquid for the small dose ) she suggested i took the 45 mg every other day !!.....

i declined and said i would rather taper gradually. Any comments on this ?...

MITRAZAPINE REDUCTION. Today I am going to the Doctors to tell her I want to go to a lower dose of my 45mg I hate how I am feeling on this dose. Its a dr that I havent seen before so I hope she is kind and helpful. I have been on them for a full 6 weeks now and hate how I am feeling. I feel so hyped both day and night. The only positive thing with them has been that my peripheral neuropathy in my feet has gone, but maybe she will be able to advise with this, although nobody has in the past 5 years. DOES anybody have any advice on the flu type feeling I have.

    WISH ME LUCK.
