Mono need help

Posted , 34 users are following.

Hi so In June I woke up one morning feeling very weak. I thought I needed to eat something but when I ate breakfast I still felt weird. I ended up having my first panic attack. My entire summer was filled with ER visits for weakness, low energy, fatigue, dizziness, off balance feeling, and generally feeling unwell. It turns out I have mono (diagnosed a week ago). I don't know what to do. Just looking for others' stories and well and recovery process. It's my 3rd month and I just feel so helpless. ?? Thanks guys ! Blessing to all

    Hi Christy,

Your note could have been written by me! It takes a longer time to recover from mono than the doctors would have you believe. I have been mostly down since Jan. Every time I get back to my regular schedule, then the sore throat, fatigue and general unwellness washes back over me. Just know you will recover! You will start having normal days soon, then backtrack, then more normal days. Be kind to yourself. Say no when you are tired- this has been the hard part for me. I found acupuncture to be a godsend and Epsom salt baths seem to really help. You will get through this.

Sounds like good advice Tiffany, remember just take things slowly as you recover and find a balance between activity and rest - the zig-zag nature of recovery with this often means (understandably) folk start to do a lot more when they are feeling better and stronger and then it hits them afterwards.

Believing you will get through this too and sounds like good advice about the acupuncture and epsom salts - I use epsom salts in bath too can be really good!

Quick update on me. Today made an entire year that I’ve been sick. Still praying for better days. I hope you all are doing well

Hey Christy, over 13 months for me. Still feel too ill to do anything. Just can’t seem to shake the dizzy zombie feeling and the stomach pains are terrible.

Hopefully we will both wake up one day and it will just be gone. Stay strong Christy!

Anyone else at this sort of time scale?

      HI Christy,

It really is good to see a post from you. I am so sorry that things have still been so tough for you, just wish we could understand these things better why we go through such times of troubles and suffering. I've been a year with my back problems too, very different I know but it's been such a draining time, and just want you to know I empathise and understand.

Still absolutely believing God is going to heal you Christy, do keep in touch and remember you ARE going to get better - my experience was Year 2 was sooooo much easier than Year 1, and really praying that is the case for you - trusting God.

Oh Ashley really feeling for you this is awful at 13 months still struggling - there just seems to be no rhyme or reason to recovery times, for some it's longer than others - but that doesn't mean to say you won't get well, I've been on the forum here about 2 years I think and I've read a lot of stories of people who were into the second year before they saw a real breakthrough and turning point, and they went on to get back to full health again.

So I'm absolutely believing this is the year of your recovery Ashley, just praying that this doesn't go on much longer and believing in God for a breakthrough in your situation, 100% still believing that.

Hey Ashely. Yes I’m just a little behind you and Christy at almost 11 months. I’ll have a week where I think I’ve beaten it only to then crash and have the horrible fatigue and muscle weakness again. It’s awful. My new doc thinks I may have adrenal fatigue due to the stress of mono and has put me on a supplement that’ll boost my morning cortisol. Praying it works. Oh and I had my first acupuncture! It was amazing!

Hey Christy! Thank you for updating! Geeeeez I’m so sorry it’s dragging for you. I’m just a month behind you and I’m still struggling with weakness and fatigue especially through the night into the morning. And I’ve done zero exercise.  Now I’m trying acupuncture and adrenal support hoping one of them helps! Hang in there.

Thank you Craig and Lisa 😊 there seems to be something about this virus that just makes you think it’s something else! I’m hoping it is just the virus but doctors seem to just brush it off and say we’ll send you for more tests without actually listening. I know I’ve got inflammation in my stomach which I think is causing an awful lot of pain but I can’t decide if it’s that making me feel ill or the virus. My liver and blood pressure have returned to near normal now. Just hoping that the abdominal pain does the same as I feel so useless not being at work etc.

I think I might have to try acupuncture thank you Lisa! I feel like I just need a slap around the face to snap out of this daze most of the time so maybe needles will help!

I have another appointment with a gastroenterologist on Friday I’ll see what he has to say. I’ve had all the cameras, scans etc about 6 months ago and nothing was found so I’m at a loss.

I wish someone would invent a cure for this!

      Hi Christy,

Have you noticed any improvements? A year was about the time that I started to notice improvements.

Hoping you feel much better soon Lisa, it's so hard to deal with I know - just hoping and believing still that you will get there - absolutely believing in that for you. Good luck with the acupuncture too, I know that helps a lot of people!

Definitely Ashley the virus does all these tricks making you think it's something else, often because the symptoms are so widespread you think surely this all can't be caused by mono! But in most cases it is, it is just such a strange and horrible virus. I know what you mean about having to be off work, I've had to be off for my back pain for nearly a year and it affects you terribly, makes you feel so down and useless - hoping and praying we can get better and back to working and being active again soon.

Thanks Craig. I think this forum and other people’s experiences are the biggest help during this. I hope your back improves very soon

Thank you so much Craig. What a journey this is.

I truly hope you know how appreciated you are and everyone here is rooting for your recovery! A year is such a long time to live with chronic pain. Hoping it passes soon.

Thank you so for the compassionate and kind words Lisa and Ashley, it really does help just having that warmth of good people thinking about you and rooting for you and hoping for you. It's been easy for me to be on the forums this last while as I've had the extra time in my life, I just want to feel like I can do something positive that helps people through this virus and helps them to know that there is hope and good health on the other side of it with God's hand.

Other people's experiences of hope and recovery certainly do help!! Remember Lisa and Ashley you guys are going to get fully better, I still believe that totally and trusting God to help and guide you and everyone on the forum each day towards recovery and restoration. Sending thoughts and prayers in Jesus name.

Thanks again for your best wishes for me, means a lot right now.

      Craig
