More valtrex questions

Sorry guys for posting the same basic question over and over.

I thought i would take a minute and spell out the whole side effect constellation and see if anyone has insight

I started valtrex (generic) last week.

I have a little fatigue and mood blunting but i am hoping that will pass

I also have a bit of a stinging sensation, like a sunburn, on my face and its a little pink

Of most concern is i have chapped lips and dry mouth. Im involuntarily sucking on my tounge and cheeks to the point where im sore from it.

Did anyone else get these effects? Did they go away eventually? How long did it take.

I really feel like daily suporession is my only shot at a normal life. I really want to be able to tolerate the meds, the dry mouth and tongue sucking might be a deal breaker. Its hard to manage. I am hoping to just power through and maybe side effects will go away.

Thanks for your input

Are you drinking a lot of fluids?? I don't really have any reaction from the Valtrex but definitely feel more tired although I don't always get the best sleep so it's hard to tell if it's from one or the other but I think I'm definitely more tired on this then I would normally be. I haven't really been thirsty but I know it causes thirst so I'm intentionally trying to drink more to avoid that symptom. I think maybe the higher the dose we have the more symptoms we may have. Maybe you can lower your dose? What are you taking?

      I'm drinking lots of water

      I am taking 500mg once a day

I might try and go to 250

I don't think 250 gives you much in the way of viral suppression, but perhaps I can do that for a few weeks until my body adjusts, then up the dose

I'm wondering if brand name valtrex might be different. There is another viral suppression med out there... Starts with an F.

I suspect they all have a similar side effect profile.

I read on your other post that you have a doc appt on Wednesday! I'd like to know how long the fatigue is going to last as well. I'm considering coming off because I don't like the feeling of being tired all the time.

I will let you know what she says

Today is skightly better than yesterday

So i timed how long it takes till the crash hits

Its 7 hours after taking my dose'. I take at 8am and am whiped out by 3... Completely brain dead.

Maybe taking the pill at 3pm daily will work better. Then the fatigue would hit at 10 pm.

      Just a thought

So i had my doc appointment and im afraid i am more discouraged than ever

Basically the answer i got was yes, the side effects could go away, and its possible they wont.

I told her i had been taking for two weeks and she thought that if they were going to subside they would have started to already.

Also.... Im apparently not even taking a therapeutic dose. Ive only been taking 500 mg a day and its supposed to be 1000. I cant imagine taking more.

I am going to go off everything for about a week then try acyclovir, but i am not hopeful
