MRI Scans

I have just read Kate's horror story regarding MRIs. Is this procedure required for every THR?  I find this story truly terrifying!

      Hi Sarah:

Just received your message.  But, I think you have already read Kate's story about her MRI injection.

A very Happy New Year to you, and I hope that 2016 brings you closer to much better health and mobility.

Having an MRI is not necessarily the norm in this situation - most folks have a pre-op X-Ray

    HI Susie

It wasn't the MRI scan that cause the pain it was the steroid injection.  You don't need to have these. I am having hip replacement  op tomorrow but refused the steroids as they don't work well if you have no cartlidge left.  My friend has had 2 steroid injections and they have worked well for her hip pain, if they are successful they are not a permanent solution and then the pain is back.  Terrified about my op but don't see a way forward without it now.

Goodluck for your op. Have you been told if your allowed to eat before it or is it one where you cant eat for 24 hours before? Or was it 10? I cant remember

      HI Sarah

Thank you for your good wishes.  I have to stop food and any drinks other than water from midnight, going in at 7am but have no idea what time the op will be.  Nerves are getting the better of me, so grateful to be able to dip into this site tonight.

Dont worry as soon as your at hospital all the lovely staff will take care of you and all your worries will be gone. I used to take a cuddly toy with me to hospital when i was younger and tbh i probably will this time to 😂 but in probably still young enough tk get away with walking around with a blankie and soft toy hahaha. I hope

Sarah I took my teddy in with me to all my ops when I was little and they would bandage one of its legs to match my plaster!
