I was diagnosed with diverticulitis a week ago at the ER when I was having excruciating abdominal pain. I was put on Cipro, Flagl, zofran and Vicodin. Since then I have dropped the Zofran and Vicodin and I was having some very dizzy spells so dr stopped Cipro and Flagl and replaced with Augmentin.
This is all new to me. I am still having a small amount of abdominal pain, and a moderate amount of back pain.
So let me get this right.... I have diverticulitis if the pouches on my colon are infected. If not, I have diverticulosis?
And I am on a high fiber diet. What does that mean? I eat bran cereal in the morning and I have a granola bar for a snack and try to eat an apple with peel and/or a banana a day. Is that enough? But I eat dinner with no regards to fiber. Should I get something like Benefiber to put on my dinner?
I am getting confused! And frustrated!
Thanks

I was diagnosed on Sept of last year. I have had 4 hospital stays and the last one was in May. I am now on benefiber three times a day and a good probiotic once a day. I still experience bouts of low back and abdominal pain that is sometimes difficult to deal with but I am living with it. The key I have found is being able to eat high fiber and taking a propbiotic that keeps your bowls moving daily but it’s a day to day things for sure.
