Multi focal lens swop to mono focal

Posted , 5 users are following.

I have had multifocal lens replacement 7month ago. Despite this i am unable to read or use computer. Prescription glasses make it slightly better but not I good enough. I can see well outside but not as good inside with less light. My surgeon has suggested taking out the multi focal lenses and replacing with mono focal. i am terrified in case i am worse off. Has anyone had to swop to mono focal from multi and what was outcome. i am supposed to be the 1% that cannot tolerate multi focal lenses. Any help or advice welcome.

Thanks Kath

Hopefully some who have gone through an exchange can offer their experience.

My only advise would be to seek out the right specialist as this is a far more complicated procedure than cataract surgery. Hopefully you have not had a YAG for PCO and if you have not had that do not opt for it till you've you made a decision on an exchange as I have read that complicates it further.

Lastly have you sought out s 2nd opinion? Sometimes it is due to a tilting of the lens or a haptic out of place. there may be a reason for poor outcome vs your not being able to tolerate the premium lens - I would especially be wary given glasses cannot correct the issue.

    Hoping you find a solution

Your post is interesting to me and I am searching a related topic and trying to find info. I had cataract surgery last April -9 months ago on my right eye and received a mono focal lens. I am unable to read in my surgery eye at reading distance with either no glasses or any of glasses perscriptions that I have been given. I also seem to be unable to drive with permanent problems with depth perception which is worse at night. I can only read on large screens and not on paper due to eye distortions and flashing. I had wondered if I should have gotten a multi-focal lens. I am 46 years old and had a rapid cataract in my right eye. I have an early cataract in my left eye not yet requiring surgery. Surgery could potentially help me with perception but then I may not be able to read at all at a reading distance if the same result occurs with cataract surgery in my left. I was cross-cointry skiing this weekend and it was ok in light area with sun. In the woods my sight was poor with glasses on. I am wondering how common this vision loss is post cataract surgery . Your challenge seems similar in part to mine and we had different lens types.
