It does say not to drink whilst taking SSRI's, but I've taken them for 15 years and I'm sure as hell not going to miss a glass or 2 of something in all that while.  If you do have a drink, just be careful and see how you go.  No it doesn't stop the medication from working, just might affect you more I suppose.

Be careful too whilst increasing your meds dose.  Alcohol does of course make us feel better, but of course it isn't the answer.

6-7 weeks is still early days on this dose.  Could be worth persevering a while longer before upping the dose?  Everyone is different, and different doses suit different people.  If the doctor has suggested 40mg though, then go for it.

      K xx

      Hi Kate

Thanks for reply.. Yes doctor suggested it a few weeks ago, I m just too chicken to do it!!!. But I think I must now cos if I go back to docs she ask why I haven't done it!

I think I've spoken to you about seroxat before?..if only they'd give me it again!! Xx

You could up the dose by chopping up the tablet so you do it gradually.  It won't be such a jump then.

Ooh yes I remember we have spoken before now re Seroxat :-)  Why were you changed again?  Strangely Seroxat didn't agree with me.  There's many other SSRI's you could try if this one doesn't help.

Hi Helen. It might be me. I have now zero symptoms of depression and my treatment is: 60 mg fluoxetine + 300 mg bupropion.

Fluoxetine tends to calm down you (after several weeks) and bupropion tends to energizing. It might seem contradictory to take both, but I'm now much more confident (asking questions during talks, something that I haven't done for years) and I feel motivated to do stuff.

hello Helen, sounds like you did the right thing taking the 40 mgs today, I was in much the same position after 8 weeks of 20mgs they increased me to 40 and things have, on the whole, been so much better. Still the odd yuck day to contend with sadly but really it's a small price for overall well being smile I do still carry a 5mg Diazepam with me as a "comforter" in case of a panic attack type thing. You will find a big difference with the 40mgs, but it is not an overnight thing, rather it's a very gradual build up to somewhere I called almost normal, but please beware that when you do get to a good place you may well waken up one day and for no apparent reason, go on to have one or two awful days, but as time goes by they are less often thankfully. I hope your 40mgs work welll for you Helen, best wishes for your journey cheesygrin

Thanks David.. I need pushing!!.. I ll carry on and take 2 (40mg) tomorrow!.. I could punch the wall or cry right now!!..hey... Fight the good fight??!!!! X

perhaps a wee cry would be less painful than a wall punch..... but yes fight the fight, you need that attitude on top of your fluoxetine! It's no easy battle Helen but there is always support on here if nowhere else, I would have been so lost without this website especially in the beginning, so many questions to ask, and of course being an impatient sod did'nt help haha. Chill with some music perhaps, and perhaps a crossword or sudoku take your mind of things for a wee while biggrin x

    Hi helen

I started the 20/40 a week n a half ago and so far its gone well. Mood has lifted lots and only real side effects back are worse hot n cold sweats at night (wake up soaked yuk).

Ive had a couple of nights drinking over last two months and seem to have coped ok tho this fri at a friends she kept filling our glasses constantly n we were all quite p@$$&d in the end . However I was very sick yesterday, had horrendous sweats n shakes til about 2pm n stayed in pjs all day so fluox def made me ten times worse. Was a great night tho but if youre gonna drink take it very slow n be prepared for hangover from hell :-)

Hope works out for you on 40.

    Take care

omg Vix I am so glad I do'nt drink nowadays, but perhaps that's because the occasion has'nt presented itself for a few years! I'm looking at the world a changed man today....... I finally got my waist length hair cut yesterday, knocked 10 years off me! (so I was told, but my sister maybe biased) so it's a new image and hopefully a new start for me, I feel liberated in a strange way. Cheers!cheesygrin

      Haha david

Ive missed a drink! I dont drink all the time but fit all my quota for a month into one night, very bad I know.i drank ny eve n was fine but my friend fri just kept topping me up so didn't know how much id drunk till too late :-) oops!

Wow serious haircut! I bet you feel so much lighter. Id grown my hair for 7yrs for my wedding so was pretty long but when my daughter was oneish I decided to have it all chopped off to almost a short back n sides! Def took a few yrs off me n ive never grown it again since, so much easier :-)

im sure it looks very smart. N sisters are usually brutally honest so im sure shes right.

Hope youre feeling brighter n feeling like a new man to go with the new haircut :-)

      Ttfn
