My husband had his first routine PSA

His score was 6.8. He is 60. His GP put him on 10 days of antibiotics and anti inflammatories and rechecked 4 days after finishing his rxs. His second test score was 8. Why such a rapid jump? He has been referred to a urologist but is very convinced he must have a rapid growing prostate cancer with such a quick jump

First: No need for panic! The PSA only shows there's something up with the prostate. It isn't in itself and indicator for cancer. Any other cause can push the PSA up - even an orgasm / ejaculation the night before the blood was taken pushed my score up 4 points once. On re-test, it came down again. Also - infections, benign enlargement and inflammation can all affect the score upwards. Biopsy is the way cancer is detected, assisted by scans and ultrasound.
