My menstrual cycle was off last month with other symptoms. What could be wrong?

To start off I have set an appointment with my GYN but they can't get me in until next month. 2nd I had tubal ligation with clips in 2013. My menstrual cycle always start the last day of the month and runs into the first week of previous month, it lasts 4 to 5 days with no cramping ever just mild back pain the day before i start. So last month my period was late 15 days. End of Sept (the 30th to be exact) I started cramping out of nowhere and that continued on for a couple days along with lower back pain. Oct 2nd I noticed a brown discharge when I wiped, that too continued on a couple days. Sunday the 5th I when I urinated I saw some bright red in my discharge and later that night I started bleeding. I'm still bleeding buts it's not as heavy as my regular periods and I still continue to have back pain and mild cramping. Other symptoms have been urinating more than usual and tiredness. I've been very worried about this since the cramping started last week. What could be wrong with me? Should I be worried?

You could have cystitis or chlanydia - worth having urine sample tested for chlamydia, white cells (leukocytes) and nitrites which in the UK are done free at GU clinics.

I probably shouldve added that I've been with my husband for 9 yrs and we have a great relationship so I'm going to cancel chlamydia out but thanks for your concern

My suggestion, is, to phone once again and stress this is out of the norm for you and you believe you need to see someone sooner, rather than later.  I can feel that you are worried.  I cannot say what's wrong nor do I believe anyone in here can because we don't know everything that's been going on in your life.  Stress, that can change your cycle.  If you've sexually active, that can change the cycle.  I'd get in to the GYN soon!  Take the next available even if it's not the one you usually see, as they are all in the same practice.  Good luck and let us know how things progress.  BTW, may I ask how old you are?

I'm 33 and I'm married so yes I am sexually active, although it's been a few weeks since we've had sex. I am a little under stress having my mother in law living with us but I've been in a lot more stress than this and its never affected my cycle. Thanks for to your advice, I will try to get in as soon as I can.

Iris, I can hear your frustration and concern.  I sure wished I could have helped you more.  Yes, I agree, having anyone other than you're used to living in your household would definitely add more stress.

I wish you well and hope you get the answers you need.  I am concerned about the discharge color you've described.  I just hope you don't have an infection of some kind.  Please get to the doctors!

My first thought is, could you be pregnant?  And I also worry that it could be an ectopic pregnancy.  Tubal ligation can fail occasionally.

And, with regard to the GU clinics, they are very thorough and you are likely to see a Gynaecologist there and you can walk in off the street.  You don't have to be promiscuous to go there, take your husband too if it makes you feel better!

I urge you to see someone sooner rather than later and the quickest would be the GU clinic.

    Good luck Iris.
