I have a very large fibroid 18 cm which is pressing on my bladder my op date has come through so quickly and I'm very scared im 49 years old and like many others have never had general surgery before im having a total abdominal and would a welcome any support. I'm even thinking about not having this done as I'm so scared. Would welcome any support or advice thanks.

I think it is completely normal to feel apprehensive before surgery. I certainly did. I am 4 weeks post TAH. Just talk to your anaesthetist before surgery and let them know how you are feeling. My anaesthetist gave me a shot of something pre op that she said would calm me down and feel like 'a couple of glasses of red wine'...it felt more like the whole bottle! Cheers to you feeling better after your op. 😊

Don't give up.The fibroid will not disappear on its on and at 18cm it is big.Mine is 20cm and it was a shock when I first found out last Oct especially when I went for a scan for what I thought was a hernia. My hysterectomy is on April 7th and I was told this in Jan so at least you won't have so much time to think about it.I have been on a course of injections to reduce the size of the fibroid and to make the surgery easier.Something is happening somewhere as I have lost nearly a stone.I am 45 and a hysterectomy is major surgery and you just need to be careful afterwards.I have been so busy getting so many household jobs done in advance, especially a lot of my spring cleaning jobs like washing curtains etc.I am looking forward to hopefully some better weather and to be able to sit in the garden taking it easy.My employer has been very good,I know that I don't have too rush back.We are all different with any recovery but please read as much as you can with this forum site it has helped me a lot.I just hope that my op isn't cancelled.Keep in touch.

Hope you have had a nice weekend? This has been my last weekend off before my op so I have been really busy getting lots of jobs done. When I go out with my Mum she needs a wheelchair and we are going away in Sept and she needs a new passport so we got that done.I have been busy washing net curtains and cleaning windows and have now started to pack my case.I bought some more new nightdresses even though I don't normally wear them at home but they will be easier for this type of op.I feel that everything is getting really near now and I have got my last 2 weeks of hours ready.I am still worried how much pain I am going to be in especially for the first couple of weeks.I have come up with a good idea when I am on my own and I have to switch plug sockets on which are low.We never leave them on standby so I have got a walking stick that I can use.The end is hooked so I can use that to pick up cables aswell to plug in appliances like my I pad and phone.

I know how you feel my op is 3rd April and I really don't want to go
Through with it all but I know there's no other choice. I m dreading it and also terrified, so you're certainly not on your own. I live in the
midlands too! Good luck we with yours x

Looking at all the other replies, I have to say it's something that's got to be done and we will get through this. A lot of women on here are post op and in couple of weeks we will be one of those 😃 I m not looking forward to it but just wish it would hurry up and get it done. Good luck for both of us x
