My operation...

Afternoon all, my first full day at home
So I arrived at the hospital a at 7am on Thursday (29th Jan) only to be told I was first on the afternoon list and just had to sit in the waiting room till my time! I went down to 'new arrivals' at 11:30 op was at about 1:30. I actually don't know how long my op was or how long I was in recovery. The next day the consultant came to see me and told me all had gone well but that my large fibroid had been at the top of of my womb and the weight of it had caused my womb to fold over in half and my womb has adhered to my stomach lining, that possibly explains why my symptoms Pre op has been quite severe considering it was a relatively small 9 cm fibroid. The consultant actually seemed quite surprised by what he had found and actually said he didn't know how it had happened. During the first night my catheter did not seem to be working correctly so I had to have a bladder scan, but afterwards it seemed to right itself. On the afternoon of the day after op I also coughed up some blood so had to have a chest X Ray just to be safe, nothing untoward found so they decided I must have been hurt when they inchibated me and it had caused my wind pipe to bleed. Came home last night and slept reasonably well, feeling very tender and bloated today but have had a BM and getting my wind moving ok too. I was very light headed earlier today but I think I was dehydrated (I've never really drank a lot), I am now drinking more and monitoring what I drink and do feel better. I've also been sent home with 7 days of the dreaded blood thinning injections

Three cheers you're home. Sounds like you had quite a time of it and no wonder you were suffering all that time. Still the road of recovery is all yours now, lots of rest and pampering is what the doctor orders. I bet your family are relieved to have you back in the fold. Keep drinking (no, no not the brandy, put that bottle down, sorry I mean water, lots of it!) and no doing those little household jobs that call to you!
Take care, love Jacqui

Hope you are not in too much pain. Take is nice and easy, oh that reminds me of Tina Turner, and then she goes on to say that they always do it rough! (The music that is, not what you are thinking!)

Oh goodie gumdrops, excellent news, I didn't want to lose the muscle tone after all the hard work I have put in so far, hope they didn't hurt too much when you did yours!
Ian is praying for my op, I've started redesigning the lounge, new sofa etc and I want paint, lots of it! he! he! he says he is going to bribe the hospital to take me in!
Hope you are being very lazy and ordering your slaves around.
Love
Jacqui

I was in a similar situation to you. I was told to be in hospital for 9.00am and was second to go down. I actually went into surgery at 2.30pm. I'm not sure how I got through all those hours, not having eaten since 6.00am the day before the op (I was on clear liquids only and bowel prep), and no water after 10am that day (they let me have a small cup when they knew the op was delayed). I have 28 days of blood thinning injections - only 7 to go now though!
You will feel better and better each day, especially now you have had a BM and are getting rid of the wind. The first week is the worst. You will soon look back and will hardly remember how you feel now.
xxKathy

Can I ask how big your fibroid was.Mine is the size of 32 weeks. How long did your operation take and was it an abdominal op?Sounds quick to send you out so soon.Sounds like most women are out within 48 hrs.Is it when they are happy with you getting up,walking round and being able to go to the toilet ok or is it where they need the beds and rush you out

I a now on day 18 and the pain on my right hand groin area and right hand side of my scar is still really bad,😞 I am trying to only take painkillers at night as still having real issues with BM,and i must say i am sleeping al night.Maybe we just need to take a bit more pain meds during the day? After all there are no medals fo
r coming of painkillers in a certain number of days and surely we wouldn't be given the number we are if they don't think we might still need them?Hope your pain eases up soon.Take care.

Hope you pain eases soon are you taking ibuprofen? My practice nurse mentioned the other day they can cause constipation that is why they use diclofenic (Voltarol - mine were 50mg, not sure what strength you can buy over the counter) as this doesn't have the same effect but is still an anti inflamatory xx
