My operation...

Afternoon all, my first full day at home
So I arrived at the hospital a at 7am on Thursday (29th Jan) only to be told I was first on the afternoon list and just had to sit in the waiting room till my time! I went down to 'new arrivals' at 11:30 op was at about 1:30. I actually don't know how long my op was or how long I was in recovery. The next day the consultant came to see me and told me all had gone well but that my large fibroid had been at the top of of my womb and the weight of it had caused my womb to fold over in half and my womb has adhered to my stomach lining, that possibly explains why my symptoms Pre op has been quite severe considering it was a relatively small 9 cm fibroid. The consultant actually seemed quite surprised by what he had found and actually said he didn't know how it had happened. During the first night my catheter did not seem to be working correctly so I had to have a bladder scan, but afterwards it seemed to right itself. On the afternoon of the day after op I also coughed up some blood so had to have a chest X Ray just to be safe, nothing untoward found so they decided I must have been hurt when they inchibated me and it had caused my wind pipe to bleed. Came home last night and slept reasonably well, feeling very tender and bloated today but have had a BM and getting my wind moving ok too. I was very light headed earlier today but I think I was dehydrated (I've never really drank a lot), I am now drinking more and monitoring what I drink and do feel better. I've also been sent home with 7 days of the dreaded blood thinning injections

Ok.... so .. good news is... IT'S ALL OVER.... bad news is.... LONG HEALING PROCESS AHEAD OF YOU..
You've heard the do's and dont's here... I know you are good on that...
That coughing blood must have scared the daylight out of you
I'm glad they realized what it was... that makes sense...
Tender is the word girlfriend... TENNNNNNNDERRRRRRRR.. no one that hasn't gone through with this has any idea! Did they do the full vertical cut??? Do you knwo how many stitches or staples they used???
I don't like the sound of those "blood thinning shots" Why is that??? Did they say that before.. you would need them??
Well.. SOOOOOOOOOO glad you are back!
PLease don't worry about writing back too quickly here, we all understand!!!!
When you wake up, and have a good few minutes of time, head feels good, pop on.. but don't expect to feel TOO GREAT right away!
Enjjoy that hubby pampering for a while!
You must be glad it's all over!
Talk to you soon!!!

They kept to their word and did my cut bikini so I don't look like a treasure map No idea if stitches or staples, or how many, can't feel any staples so maybe stitches will know when I go to gp to get dressings changed x

I felt the same as you leading up to my TAH with BSO exactly 2 weeks ago today. On the morning of the op i was remarkably calm and just hoping that the severe pain i had been suffering for the previous 13 months would come to an end
Woke up in recovery to find that the spinal hadn't worked 😞so was on morphine ny mouth for a couple of days.Catheter and drips were fine and it really wasn't that bad having either removed. Nursing staff were brilliant with pain relieve etc and i stayed in for four days
First day home went upstairs to bed and managed a really undignified shower with help from hubby😊Have had good days and bad at home .Pains tend to be if i overdo the walking around and also really struggled with BM as didn't go for 8 days😠😠😠The pain from this was almost worse than the pain from the actual op itself.
You will be tender but listen to your body. Rest rest and more rest and before you know it you will be on the done couch looking forward to being pain free and enjoying your life again.
Hubby was at home for the first four days and since them i have managed with people visiting and go out for a very short walk on my own each day. Never thought i would be saying this but am actually so glad i have had it done now.Any questions we will all be willing to help and offer support
This website has proved to be a gem and a massive thank you to all who have helped me get through the last couple of weeks😊

Take care and enjoy being looked after. My husband has been absolutely brilliant and despite never doing it before has proved to be a dab hand at both cooking and ironing.I could get used to this being a lady of leisure malarkey lol.

Just wanted to wish you all the best for tomorrow. Hope it all goes well for you, and just think soon you will be on your way to a full recovery.
Let us know how you get on, and remember as calm as possible (I know I am asking a lot!) it helps the healing process.
Love

How are you doing now, hope you are also having a good day x
If you meant the little avatar picture next to our posts (on yours it's a green box) I think if you go to the top of the page and click on your own name above the notifictions part, then go to settings and then if you hover over your avatar it comes up edit, then it will allow you to upload your own picture, I had to crop mine quite a bit and re save it to my computer though as the original file was too big xx
