My operation...

Afternoon all, my first full day at home smile

So I arrived at the hospital a at 7am on Thursday (29th Jan) only to be told I was first on the afternoon list and just had to sit in the waiting room till my time! I went down to 'new arrivals' at 11:30 op was at about 1:30. I actually don't know how long my op was or how long I was in recovery. The next day the consultant came to see me and told me all had gone well but that my large fibroid had been at the top of of my womb and the weight of it had caused my womb to fold over in half and my womb has adhered to my stomach lining, that possibly explains why my symptoms Pre op has been quite severe considering it was a relatively small 9 cm fibroid. The consultant actually seemed quite surprised by what he had found and actually said he didn't know how it had happened. During the first night my catheter did not seem to be working correctly so I had to have a bladder scan, but afterwards it seemed to right itself. On the afternoon of the day after op I also coughed up some blood so had to have a chest X Ray just to be safe, nothing untoward found so they decided I must have been hurt when they inchibated me and it had caused my wind pipe to bleed. Came home last night and slept reasonably well, feeling very tender and bloated today but have had a BM and getting my wind moving ok too. I was very light headed earlier today but I think I was dehydrated (I've never really drank a lot), I am now drinking more and monitoring what I drink and do feel better. I've also been sent home with 7 days of the dreaded blood thinning injections sad

Good morning all, hope all is well xx It is exactly a week since my op and I am very surprised by how well I am feeling! Yes I still have some discomfort but the need for pain killers is already less than it was. I'm hoping today to just have paracetamol and Voltarol one dose of each for breakfast and then nothing till bed time, we'll see how that goes. I have also managed to blow dry my own hair today albeit with my daughters old Disney princess hairdryer (it's not as heavy as my own) so it's not as good as normal but I do feel and look a bit more like me smile my little cat is being so loving, he definitely knows that something is not right, he is gently padding around me then looks at me as much as to say "please can I come sit on your lap" I tap my legs and he very gently sits down totally avoiding my stomach area!

      Hi Luckymum

So, so pleased you are doing so well.  Great news about being able to blow dry.  I ordered a lightweight blower in a stand because I am always having to blow dry Rosie!  She is so low to the ground her belly gets ugh!  A very soggy doggie.  Also I was thinking I could use it for me too!

Ah Shadow knows, how wonderful he is being so careful.  Keep up the good recovery, and remember just because you are feeling good does not mean you can do too much!  Be very careful.

Thanks Jacqui, you are so right, it is VERY tempting to carry on as normal when you feel ok, you have to keep reminding your self to be good.

    Hi Luckymum,

So glad that you are getting on ok! Did you end up with staples or stitches? Are there any jobs that you find easier or harder than expected,if so what. How long have you been told for your recovery time before you can lift things normally?

    Thanks for the info

Thank you Teresa, I eneded up with dissolvable stitches. Not really been doing any jobs as my hubby has had a week off work and has in all fairness been fantastic. Not been given a recovery time but my initial sick note is for six weeks but the nurse at my GP's when I saw her on Tuesday asked me to phone her towards the end of that and she seemed open to extending it, Hope that has helped xx

Did your nurse say how long she thought you would be off?

Sorry to be personal but have you been bleeding much?

No she didn't say, just that we would have a better idea nearer the end of current sick note.

It's ok, no not much bleeding at all, I had a very few spots of blood the first two days but was clear by the time I came home, mine was abdominal surgery, not sure if that would make a difference x

    Hi

I am currently on an emergency waiting list for a TAH taking ovaries too. I have got cervical stenosis with hematometra caused by a failed endometrial ablation. I get severe contractions (worse than child birth) lasting 5-6 hours at a time. This is normally every 5 weeks but is now coming and going whenever it feels like it. I am gutted i am in this predicament but there is no other alternatives for me. Reading these forums really is helping me feel like i am not the only one out there having to live this nightmare. My one queston is 'how bad was the pain when you awoke in recovery?'

Honestly Nanny, nill. When you are in recovrey and the first day they give you a PCA which is basically a button to control a drip to self administer the pain relief. After that I personally have found that the pain is easily managed on Voltarol and paracetamol it is more discomfort than pain though I have een getting severe stabbing/pulling pains in my groin but these only last seconds. The waiting is by far the worst part. I wish you a full and speedy recovery xx
