My update - positive

Evening all,
I doubt anyone will remember me but thought I would share my experience and recent findings on my constant pain for the last 2 and a half years.
My symptoms are: burning pain after urinating, painful after ejaculation, 'dribbling', testiclular pain and on and off clear discharge.
Treatment and tests: numerous blood, semen and urine tests (NHS). Two cyscopopies (sorry for spelling). CT Scans and MRI scan. Sexual Health checks all clear. I have had three Urology specialists on the NHS...this was due to me asking for second and third opinions as I was fed up being told 'it is all in my head' and 'we are completely at a blank as to what this is and how we can help'. I have paid over £300 on private tests for Garnerella, Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma at Harley Street which came back clear.
Today I have had a break through of sorts which left me very confused but equally over the moon. I paid to have a Urine test completed privately - today the test came back positive for Enterococcus faecalis. Apparently this is a bacteria found in the intestine but if escapes into the urethra or prostate causes big issues e.g.. what I have been going through for 2 and half years. It's the first bit of hope I have had in the last 2 and half years.
I am confused as to why the countless tests through the NHS didn't pick this up? It made me think of all of the British sufferers on this site and the possibility their symptoms are being missed.
Has anyone had any experience of Enterococcus faecalis? Any info?
Thank you in advance
Danny

Thanks for the reply Ken
No I haven't received any information on it yet tbh. The private clinic sent me my results late this evening and closed before I had a chance to discuss with one of their docs. I will chase them down tomorrow. I will also book a GP appt sharpish and get some meds to start working away at getting rid of this finally. I am a little unsure what you mean by incubation period? Does that mean once it is killed it remains in the system?
From what I have read online this evening, Enterococcus faecalis like you mentioned, can pass from person to person, food, door knobs, towels etc. I assumed it was something to do with faeces going by its name? The thought is quite gross. But it can be a tough thing to fight but the clinic ran growth samples on it to test for best antibiotics and they mentioned amoxacyline and Nitrofurantoin?
I am just happy to have some kind of light at the end of the tunnel finally. Has been a real tough couple of years and has had a huge effect on raising my two little girls and my work life.
Fingers crossed things start to get better.
All the best Ken
Danny

The strange thing to me is my white cell count was low indicating no infection. The clinic state this is due to the amount of antibiotic courses I have been on in the last 3 year's killing it. But the bacteria itself is alive and thriving. I don't understand where the pain is coming from. But they are convinced at the clinic that this is the cause of my symptoms. Time will tell i guess.
Thanks Ken

With me my white cell count is over 100.000. I am just tired of these infection. In 2014 I had 7 infection and then ended up with sepsis Was in the hospital for 6 days with IV'S Came home with a port in my arm. Had to have it at home for 11 days. That was a year. That is why I am telling you to go to the doctor with your report and tell them you need a antibiotic. Anything in the penicillin group. I think that one Amoxacyline may be in that group. You have had to deal with this for years don't wait to long Take care Ken

Please be aware of the dangers in the frequently prescribed Cipro and Fluorquinolones if they are suggested.

Too late for me on that front. In the early stages of my pains etc I had three courses of Cipro and the same with Doxy. I remember posting on here around that time complaining of pains etc. I have just been prescribed Nitrofurantoin 200mg a day for 2 weeks. According to the private clinic who found the bacteria in my urine - they stated this was showing the most effective in their tests for removing it.
Thanks

I have been prescribed Nitrofurantoin 200mg a day for 2 weeks as a trial. Apparently this antibiotic was most effective against the bacteria in the private lab tests? I will start tomorrow and hope to see a change. I have just started taking strong probiotics too. I think my gut was seriously messed up from all the Cipro and Doxy in the last 2 years

At least he gave you something. What you need to do is what my doctor told me to do. Take a probiotic with the Bactrim. That is what I'm doing. You can get them at a pharmacy. They don't cost much. It would be a good idea to protect your stomach. I hope you have some luck with it Ken

E. coli
Staphylococcus saprophyticus
Coagulase negative staphylococci
Enterococcus faecalis
Staphylococcus aureus
The most common side effects with nitrofurantoin are nausea, headache, and flatulence. Less common adverse events (occurring in less than 1% of those taking the drug)
Gastrointestinal: diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, emesis
Neurologic: dizziness, drowsiness, amblyopia
Respiratory: acute pulmonary hypersensitivity reaction
Allergic: pruritus, urticaria
Dermatologic: hair loss
Miscellaneous: fever, chills, malaise
Patients should be informed that nitrofurantoin colours urine brown; this is completely harmless.

Good for you, Dan! I hope they get it eradicated. I am going through something very similar to you. Clear viscous discharge, constant urinating , yellow chunky semen, and painful throbbing testicles; passed all STD tests, but antibiotics administered to me just in case have failed to cure it. It all started after a relationship three years ago and a slight itch in the anus. I've grown obsessed by it, finding it hard to enjoy daily things, and now even losing hope. It becomes a strange surreal world of private suffering, because no one can really have empathy unless they have been through it. But I have empathy for you and am gladdened by this news, which also gives me a little hope. Maybe my ex passed this very thing on to me? I have hated her for a long time, but the truth is I was stupid, believing I had no STD infection because of the tests I did while I was with her and then continuing to sometimes have unprotected sex with her, despite visceral fears.
An NHS doctor recently asked me to do tests at home, which will be sent on to a lab for more thorough tests, as simple clinical tests have failed to detect the bacteria causing my problems. I put some discharge on a swab at home and gave a urine sample which I made sure was given when I had one of my daily discharge outbreaks, and later held the urine to a light, spotting thick white bits in it. I was worried that the swab one would not be adequate as when i was pushing for more discharge to come out, I passed some urine, possibly washing away the discharge on the cotton tip. Still, when I looked at the swab I spotted what looked like a solid piece of discharge with which I usually suffer. Anyway, I really pray that the lab can detect what is eating away at me from these samples. It may even be what they found with you, Dan? By the way, could you point me to some cheap private clinics in the UK just in case?
Very glad for you. Let me know how the treatment goes, and keep fighting the good fight!
Robert

As you mentioned in your post - I feel your pain and frustration as been through this nightmare for the last few years. It has honestly been so emotionally draining. When all of the specialists gave up and stated they had nothing - I felt I was on a one man mission. I noticed in myself when my positivity slowly ebbed away as more tests came back clear.
I will pm you some info on where I went in the UK for the tests etc.
As I just mentioned in a reply to Ken - my recent tests results show low white cells meaning no infection. The specialists feel that the numerous courses of antibiotics have killed off any infection but the bacteria is alive and thriving which leaves me confused as to how I am still suffering symptoms.
I will get to the bottom of it but the good news is I am one step closer and you never know, through my experience it may lead you to answers. I really hope so. I will pm you.
Cheers Robert
