Nearly 2 weeks post op

Nearly 2 weeks post op, still in a lot of pain and discomfort obviously but doing well although when it comes to night time im really struggling to stay asleep because lyng with my legs up is agony for me so i quite often have to get up and have a walk or just sit on the edge of my bed.

my main concerns are that since the op my left leg now seems to be longer and from the knee down myleg bends of at an angle which is not exactly normal. Im not sure if its just because my legs arent right atm or if its something i should be worried about.

On Monday im getting the dressing and everything taken of my incision so im very excited to see it in all its glory, and as you can see it looks like its going to be pretty impressive, im surprised about the lack of bruising though as i usually bruise badly over the littlest of things haha

That is a huge scare!! Looks like it's healing well though. I was just rescheduled for May 4th

Yeah it is. And its right next to my other huge scar haha. Oh no. When was it supposed to be?

Hi Sarah. I'm 4 weeks post op and am also in the 'one leg longer than the other' situation! From all my research, this is a pretty common phenomenon in the early stages, prior to swelling going down and our implants/hips settling. Therefore, I'm not worrying about it too much at this stage...  Hope you go from strength to strength with your recovery!

Its more because my other leg was longer and now its swapped over. But its more that my leg is off to an angle which worries me the most. It really shouldnt be sticking out like it does haha

If you're really worried, I'd certainly try to seek your surgical team's advice... if only to put your mind at rest. They push and pull us around one hell of a lot during the surgery, so I think pretty much everything in your operated leg is abnormal for some time after the op. Peronsally, I'm really struggling with soft tissue issues around my knee - but keep telling myself 'it's only four weeks'...

I really relate to frustrations with soft tissue around the knee - still a concern after 9 weeks, but getting slightly better after working long and hard with the PT on the IT band and hamstring. The knee remains stiff - sort of a cotton feel to it.

Please let me know if you resolve this and have advice.

Sarah - glad to know you are doing better. But do talk to your surgical team - no use worrying if they can reassure you or address the problem. Keep up your spirits - we are rooting for you!

Will do Linda - will talk to physio about it tomorrow, and then have my follow up with surgical team the following week. It's worse than ever today - v. frustrating! :-)

8 weeks post op and also have knee swelling and pain. Physio thought maybe bursitis but surgeon didn't agree at 6 week check. It impairs my walking and feels like I am trying to bend a balloon...😬

Not sure if my problem is the same as yours but my kneecap is pointing to the left a bit due to congested swelling on the right side and muscle tightness (according to the PT). All I know is I'm surprised how long the knee is taking to settle down...

Its the whole bottom half of my leg that is bending off to the left. Although yes im still incredibly swollen it is making me walk a little bit on the side of my foot which cant be good.

I knownits still early but i noticed it the day after my op when i was lying in bed that my leg was going of to the side. Even a nurse seemed a bit worried about it haha

It could just be swelling or a tendon that hasn't snapped back into place as its only been a couple of weeks but if it looks and feels wrong, then I would contact the surgeon. You don't want to be putting pressure on it and walking incorrectly and causing yourself potential problems, you already have enough to deal with! Hopefully your surgeon will reassure you and there is nothing to worry about but for your own peace of mind it might be best to see him. My PT and surgeon both told me the first 6 weeks are all about healing, so don't try to do too much. I found Netflix invaluable! 😉

Hi Sarah, nice straight scar. It's early days yet, the length may be ok once your tissues settle down. The sleeping part is hard. When I'm on my bed the good foot is more or less straight up and the other is leaning to the left, still healing to do.

    Keep going.
